I hate video editing rant

I hate it

I bought sony vegas platinum today to edit some videos for my private studio profile thats online

makin sure you have th right codec - cuz my video cam renders and some BS condec so I have to transfer it to mpeg first - and then i find out its a common problem with sony vegas and my video camera

then I am playing with the editing and audio in dang thing

all different ways to export it - in all different formats - that i never even heard of

some of them would take 20- 30 minutes to export and then not even play

and back to the editing - i cant seem to clip and cut and past and do transitions as smooth as i can with audio in sonar -- and then they things dont even drop and drag like i want and I am closing and opening  things I dunno even know what the hell they do ...... and my hard drive is working hard - I can hear it working when i render the projects  - makes me nervous - its a new hard drive

I really hate video

blah and boo to video

i dont even have any interest to get good at it -- I just wanted to make and edit a nice video for the web site and I havnt even started yet

 i am done

maybe tomorrow

video people suck -- audio people rule

Nope, I can pretty much guarantee it would drive me crazier than learning Sonar did.  Computers and I have a love/hate relationship.  It seems I can't live without them, but they give me pain (literally...headaches, arm aches, butt aches, etc.)  So, the less I have to do on one, the better.

    But have fun!  :-)

I recently started using my HDSLR to record some video and use Premiere Pro.

The native HDSLR .mp4 CODEC played poorly on my system. I bought Cineform NeoScene to use as an intermediary CODEC and now I can edit 1920x1080 30P video on my stinking laptop while I sit in the couch.

I was able to do that with DV25 for many years but to see it work in full HD is jaw dropping.

The future has left the station.

Good Luck Mooch... once you figure out a work flow that works with your gear it should all go pretty smooth.

    best regards,
    mike

Hey mooch i'm with ya 100%,   Ever hear a mix done by a video editor?

I've worked with video editors for years,  I can tell a well edited video from a poor one right off the bat.  I'm not talking video quality,  I mean pacing, continuity,  how well a story comes together  etc...    But why that is I have No idea.  And when i try to do a little promo editing...it sucks.   'cause i have no interest in it at all

And  Mike! what the heck language are you ramblin' in?

It's scary isn't it... I'm the sound guy who serves as the on site tech support for all my video buddies.

I'm the guy that reads the new camera's manual on the drive to the shoot.

    :-)

Which, I think, is why they continue to feed me at lunchtime...  +/- a few hours.

    best regards,
    mike

Rendering video takes time.  Think of the what it's processing.  The film standard is 30FPS.  If you have 10 minutes of footage at 640x480 resolution your talking about processing 18,000 frames in 16- or 24-bit color.  That's a lot of processing.  The 20-30 minutes mentioned earlier is not going to be related to the software but to the hardware the software is run on.  An off-the-shelf consumer grade computer is not geared to do this.  Read that as "any computer bought from a retail store whether its brick and mortar or internet."  Lots of RAM is required combined with a mid- to high-end video GPU card.  The built-in video found on motherboards will not do when it comes to editing.

Sony Vegas Platinum is a very good video editor for the price. It doesn't come with a usable manual though and you can't find any instructional books about it. You can download the Vegas Pro manual and a lot of that applies to the Movie Studio Platinum version.
