I have a fairly simple question about spikes and pops and how to deal with them

I use a lot of outboard equipment and sometimes it's hard to regulate the volume...is there a way to edit out loud pops when I spike ?...sometimes it ruins a good recording

There are ways, of course. The most obvious: Just cut/silence them out manually from the waveform with automation. If you cut out the pops it also means cutting away some audio. There are also software for spotting those pops more or less automatically, but it doesn't mean manual adjusting isn't required. EQ can be of some help as well.

It's better to learn to record without making the pops. Don't record too hot, use a proper pop-shield and practice microphone technique.

I have sometimes done repair work taking a moment from another measure that is pretty similar. Copy that to another track and fade it in and out quickly... The inverse of the track with the clip.

I make some videos. This one shows how to do a physical loopback on the RME UCX to get many more equalizer nodes.
