I have an opportunity to grab a set of Bx8a's for about $100-125 THINK IT'S WORTH IT?
I have been looking at the yamaha hsm80's as a 2nd set to refference but I came across a guy whe has a set of the m audio bx8a's still in the box, used twice. If I listen and they are undamaged are these worth it? Seems reviews are all over the map on them.... decent sound but crap quality/durability... If they are any better than the rockit 5's I am on now and will offer a different persepective it may hold me off for a while till I can spend the $700+ for the yamies without my wife choking me out. If it's a waste well I don't wanna bother. Thanks guys!

I'd go for it, I really like my BX-5a. and I didn't get as good of a deal your getting. Mine have worked well for about 3 years, no issues at all. I like the mid to high end smoothness - the low end is decently flat to about 55.

if they're in good condition - they're worth getting for that price even if you don't like them! you can always sell them on ebay for more than that!

Yep I picked em up this evening, I got them for $100 bucks, In nice shape, in the box, with chords and the manual. They are GIGANTIC compared to my rockits!! going from a 5" to an 8" what a size difference! (haha... keep it clean fellas I am talking about the speaker now....) I set them up and the 1st good sign was that I could hear all the little stuff that pisses me off in the car because I couldn't hear them on the rockits. I also heard a couple pops & clicks in tracks I have never heard before. Turned out to be bad edits and a clip in a vocal take that I never caught or heard before.... I couldn't believe the differences... I am not saying these m audio's are the best things on the planet but for now they are a huge leap forward for me and I'll be suprised if I even turn those KRK's back on again. I am amazed. I really wonder why I worked with them for so long? Maybe it's that my room just didn't work well with those speakers, I dunno. I do know the bx8a's make my mixes that I did on the Krk's sound like the sound on other systems only a little clearer which is what a monitor should do right? So that when it sounds really nice and clear in the studio it sounds good elsewhere too? My 2 gripes on the bx8a's: * The blue LED light on the front is bloody annoying and will soon be covered with something to get them out of my eyes. * the extream highs are a hair too bright.... I wish these had a knob to turn them down, I can see where that could cause your ears to fade over long sessions.

Sounds like a great deal and a super price. I have nothing against used gear that is in great shape.

I am using a set of those and I have no complaints. Like any speaker I had to learn them, but for that price I would jump if they worked ok.
