About 15 years ago a really helpful politician decided it would be a great idea to scrap rent control. Rents have at least doubled since then and if you aren't pulling in at minimum 24k a year your boned and even then you'll be spending half of that on a rat trap.

    It is very disheartening.

Without getting political one could argue that the world really is all funked up these days.

Indeed. I understand people wanting to acquire and retain wealth but at a certain point there just isn't any more money to squeeze out of folks. It's in the best interest of those who chase material things in life to make sure the rest of society can at least be reasonably prosperous and content. It keeps the money flowing and the guillotines rusty.

Seriously though this place was third world. I'd have been better off in a tent in Mooch's garage.

@daryl... Canuckerland. Rent isn't nearly as bad as in the UK though however our wages tend to be far lower and our social systems were gutted at the same time rent control was scrapped (in this province anyway). I worked like a man possessed while I could but got struck by the gimp gods young and now am at the mercy of the system. Kind of why I'm so obsessed with getting all this recording stuff working. It's my only real shot at becoming self sufficient again so I can have some control over my life. They sure make it hard though.

Anyway, that's enough whining for one day. I just couldn't believe this place. It was FRAKKED up.

Thanks, guys. It's a beesnotch alright but I'm pretty hard headed and have accomplished a lot in the past couple years as far as sorting things out. Just kind of want to move on to the next phase, yanno? I'm not used to sitting on my beeples this long. At least the music is keeping me occupied so that's good. I was going REALLY nuts not having that outlet so I'm pretty happy with what Sonar is doing for me. Should have something fresh for the forum soon if I can ever get these bleeding solos down. lol

You have to keep looking where apartments are concerned. There are some horrible, overpriced ones in every city you look, but also some rare bargains. I have a renovated studio in the East Village for $950/month which is virtually unheard of in Manhattan, especially downtown. Just got lucky I suppose. By rights I should be paying at least $2000.

Whoa. Yeah that's a pretty insane deal. That's what it would have cost me to stay a week in the crummy students hostel I landed in when I visited Manhattan. I just read an article about the most expensive cities to live and sure enough NY was on there for the rents. It claimed for "nice" 2 bedroom flat you were looking at $14 000 per month. Probably overinflated because it was an internet puff piece but still.

I've got my eye on a couple of place right now but there aren't any vacancy at the moment. Just gotta be patient I guess.

There's a lot of people who have had to go back to renting. It's a nightmare. Even in Canada the economy has effected the dreams of many. Keep looking, don't settle, report places that are "frakked up".

Yeah, I think this guy would have some issues if I had my government handlers show up. I'll let him be though. It is super cheap comparatively and someone will take it. He seemed like a nice enough fellow too. I just can't live in a crumhole like that anymore.

Gave me a little meaning back in life instead of being cooped up in the house and useless for quite some time.  Bout the time I got things gathered up and figured out I was able to get back out a little bit and found a band to keep busy with.  Nice bunch of people (Mostly a very large family)

So its a great thing to have and be involved in for me too.

Beep, you are a reasonable and well written fellah.  It will all sort itself out. Craptastic about the apartment, though.

Thanks, man. I'm glad you got back into the swing of things. That's right where I'm at now. I sure won't be as active as I used to be but just being able to get out and do even mundane stuff will do a lot for my current mindset. I sure do miss my bands. After playing with other people religiously for over a decade to not doing anything is quite the adjustment.

I was just checking out your soundcloud stuff. Sounds good. That girl has a lovely voice and I'm assuming that's you singing on the country track further down the page. Perfect for the style. Cheers and thanks for the encouragement. I was just a little frustrated yesterday. You know how it goes.

Some pretty nice guitar work too. After I finish up this metal track I'll be shifting gears entirely and focusing on my acoustic stuff. I'd like to get it nice and crisp like you've done on those tracks. I think it's gonna be a bit of a challenge considering my lack of quality mics. We'll see. Cheers!

From what I understand prices are up all over. I watch that show my wife really likes on HGTV where they are buying homes, or sometimes renting....and I can not believe the prices in some of those places.

I think to myself if I had to live there, I'd be the guy in the cardboard box with plastic over it.....

I have always liked the smaller towns and especially out in the country a ways. I have found some real bargains when I used to rent....and then I found a diamond in the rust when I found this house I own. You probably won't find many good deals in the big cities...... but good luck.

If you have any thoughts of buying a home, check with the banks for "bank owned" properties. The banks are tighter than Richards hatband if you try to buy a home off the market. They will want sterling credit and a large downpayment, however... if they have a house sitting on their books, they want it sold and will make a deal. You might be surprised and you never know until you try. You might find a heck of a deal on a fixer upper that the bank wants GONE.
I wont go into details but I can tell you that I have done things that looked to be absolutely impossible, things that seemed even foolish to think about... just by giving it a try.
    Good saling to you.

    +1 Herb.

They never have anything close to normal housing. I don't know how anyone lives in some of those places like Toronto or California. They show these small sorta dumpy looking homes that are jammed up against the next house then say that the price is 500k, I'm like WHAT? Either that or it is some palatial estate.
The prices around here are great for the buyer. I shoud have started a "Duck call" business... but it is what it is.

I have heard that the City of Detroit...or was it Cincinnati (?) are selling houses for ONE DOLLAR to anyone who is willing to move in and fix them up and live there....

I think the problem is... they are located in areas where most folks don't want to live..... hence the empty houses to start with....

But just wanted to let you know about the super deals in those towns.   After watching Hardcore Pawn Shop.... I don't think I'd want to live there.
