I just saw pictures of a studio mounting their vocal mics upside down

So, if I try that, then how do I get vocals flipped back to right side up?

Rotate the clips 180 degrees then flip them horizontally.

I do it all the time.

It will mean the 'shiny' side of the clip is at the back but you shouldn't be able to hear it if you dim the lights a bit.

you noobies.. it was because in the day" tube mics were used, thus upside down the heat from the tube didn't affect the diaphragm because the element was below the tube heat rise up ... you young interns have so much to learn in these days solid state mics doesn't matter....

Have a look at you soundcard mixer. The top/bottom invert is next to the phase invert botton on my roland quad-capture's control panal.

ALternativly, you can make an adaptor from a male and female stereo (balanced) jack, then plug them in and rotate one. I've seen guys try it with XLR connectors, but there's no way to rotai=te the male without rotating the female, so they both top/bottom invert and cancel out

    This ones almost too easy...

    Turn the speakers upside down.

I'd thought of that but then realised it wouldn't translate too well on another system.

Clip flipping is where it's at.

Be aware that when you flip the signal for the primary recorded sound to make it upright, any sound in the background will get flipped as well. This can have unintended consequences as what used to happen with backward masking like causing your studio intern to get you an ice coffee rather than hot coffee as the sound gods intended.
Sadly I do not have an intern and thus must accept the blame myself.

Hanging the singers by their feet from the ceiling would solve the upside-down clip problem, too.

I can think of a few singers that not hanging by their feet would solve some problems too

I don't like to have my mics upside down.

I just stand on my head when I record Vox.

The singers think it's a funny way to engineer, but hey...... whatever works, roight?

What the heck ... hang yourself up by the feet and then sing! ... I'm pretty sure the result will be interesting to say the least! Even Eno has not thought about that!

As for flipping them back? ... just ignore the naysayers and let it be ... never know ... might make you famous!

As a wise Guy once stated from his holy chapala ... none of the hits, none of the time ... prevents you from becoming just another turkey in the middle of all the other turkeys!
