I just want to record a mix to share with friends!

One of my hobbies is mixing dance music and I want to record a mix to my computer. On my previous desktop, I accomplished this easily by connecting my mixer to my computer using a a y-connector with 2 RCA jacks and 1/8 jack. I had one of the Sound Blaster cards and the 2004 version of Cakewalk's Pyro. Minimal low quality set-up, I know, but it was fine for what I wanted to record.

I am trying the same set up with my current desktop and cannot record more than 20 minutes of one of my mixes. I am getting very annoyed. A friend who is very familiar with DJ recording suggested getting something by MOTU. I have tried researching different sound cards and devices but I find it very confusing. I am willing to spend some money for a better recording set-up but I don't need ultra-professional quality.

Can anyone give me suggestions? Specs of my set-up are:

Pioneer DJM-300 mixer (RCA outputs only)
Dell XPS Gen 5 with Pentium D 3.00 GHz, 2 GB RAM, SoundBlaster Audigy sound card installed by Dell

Thanks in advance!!!

M-Audio Audiophile 192. Perfect for your needs, decent converters, hardware-based monitoring. Simple, stable card... cost you about $179 or so (less if you look hard enough!)

    Cheaper? Audiophile 2496.

    Good luck!

Thank you for your advice. That is what I thought I needed but when it comes to pro audio outside of turntables and mixers, I will admit that I am clueless.

Am I missing something? If the problem is inability to record more than 20 minutes, how does a new interface change that?

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.

Hmmm. Good point, Kalle. I was only addressing the interface question. I have Pyro as well... I'll check it tonight and see if there are settings for Max Recording Length.
