I know ya'll missed me this weekend....UPDATED

I spent the past 4 days on a school field with the bike club organising our anual rally.

My job was....  sound.  I wonder why?
We had a marquee with stage at one end and the bar at the other.  Work started Thursday, unload and build the stage, load in PA stacks (8 subs with horns, 4 mids) about 8k.  (Slightly less than Rush, don't want to upstage them...)   Club party Thursday night, sleep.

Friday, breakfast at 9, start work at 10am.
Move stage right PA stack so disco can be set up.  Spend 2 hours in crawl space under stage adding extra bolts and spreaders to the stage feet as the entire stage had sunk into the ground overnight!!

Setup rest of PA, FOH, Monitors and lighting rig. Discover one of the 16Amp outputs on the generator is F*&%ked   It's 4pm on Fri and the generator is no good!!!  A few calls by the club chairman and an "engineer" turns up to tells us what we already know,  the 16A output is F&^%ed...   He gives us an extra geny to make up the lost load.

Bands start to turn up and get sound checked, except the "headline" band is late, so no sound check for you guys.. LOL

2am bands done and clear from stage, disco wound down and most punters party goers returned to their tents.
3am final drunken bastard party goer kicked out of marquee.  I can finally shut down the generators for the night and hopefully get some sleep.

Saturday 9am Breakfast
Realise this is the first chance I've had to eat since 9am yesterday...
Start work at 10am,  fix the lights that went tits up last night.
Midday,  the guys want the bar open so I have to start the generators, WHERE THE F*&^ IS THE GENERATOR KEY????
Found key in the bottom of my bag
Play background musak all afternoon for the casual drinkers, custom bike show and rally games. Disco guys take over about 6pm, just as the bands start turning up for sound check.
"Headline" band is late, etc, etc, (see Friday for details)
2am Start packing gear so there's less to do tomorrow.
Get to bed by 3:45am

Sunday 9am Breakfast, Takedown day
Nothing left in the fridge, so off to raid the food stall.  Becan sarnie
Most of the PA had been boxed last night, just the stacks and stage to dismantle.
Club meeting at midday. Finish site takedown and clean during afternoon.
Off site at 4pm.

Untill next year....

Video now on ewetube

and Part 2

A&H ML3000,    Reverbs, delays, lots of gates, compressors and graphic EQs.  Lighting controlers on left.

Charlie anoying the DJ...

Riff Raff turned up for their sound check...

... and brought Neil Peart with them!!

Saturday night, fancy dress "Cowbouys and Dancing girls".   The band joined in and it was like a cross between Brokeback Mountain and The Village People...  Good lads

Nice photos.  Looks like a well-organized and worthwhile event.  Fun, too.

Did you also help out on traffic detail?  It's the first time I've seen the yellow reflective vest on a sound person.

Maybe.  It may be different in the UK.  Whenever I've done anything like that, they told me to were all black so I wouldn't distract from the show.  Or maybe they were ashamed of me.

I'm just having a joke. All black is standard stage craft.

My guess is that Karyn was partying with her biker friends and wearing her road kit.

They made me wear a road kilt, and I wasn't even there.

It did make for a casual Friday, however.

YMCA that you hear the end of had morphed from Metallica.

The band (No mercy for Percy) played our rally last year and Charlie (see pic above) was shouting all night for Metallica and getting quite gobby.  Eventually they started For Whom The Bell Tolls and Charlie was giving it large on the dance floor.  They played it really well and Charlie was giving it everything and just as he opened his mouth to join in the first verse...  they switched to YMCA !!

The whole place was in uproar laughin at Charlie who was by now on his own with everyone else watching him moshing to YMCA
