I love music! And how Sonar lets me explore!

I was just thinking this morning about all the possibilities we have today. I remember when I first got into computer music like 17 years ago and I was inputting notation manually with a mouse and coming up with all this elaborate stuff that I thought sounded amazing at the time but none of the sounds sounded real but at the time they were great!

Now I think of my setup and the potential to make anything I can possibly think of, for me the opportunity to channel my creativity in any way I want and come often come up with really neat stuff all the time increasing my knowledge and learning of musical concepts, arrangement and mixing!

That's part of the appeal to me I think, the potential for growth and learning and creativity and expression are limitless I'll never run out of growth and learning to do as a musician as a composer or as an arranger or mixer etc.

And then the blessing of sharing my music with others! Wow, it's just so frigg'n cool!!!

I'm sitting here and I can make any music I want!

Just awesome when you sit back and think about it!

Yep, things have definitely changed a lot over the years. I started with the Atari and Dr.T's KCS sequencing software.

Studer Dyaxis and a Boss Dr Rhythm.

I'm hoping Cakewalk will take care of the staff view in X2.

It's been a long time coming.

I stubbornly stuck with my Alesis MMT8 hardware sequencer and Alesis HR16 drum machine combo until 2004.  I'd gotten so good at making the most out of the tiny memory available, and I loved how quick and easy it was to push On, Record-and off I was into a recording.  I'm surprised at the complexity in my projects from back then.

I soooo rebelled against computers, and when I finally made the switch to Pro Audio 9 (it was already out of date, and so, inexpensive) on a hand-me-down Windows 95 machine,  for some time I found it so clumsy in comparison to the sleek little Alesis unit.  All that button pushing just to start recording.  All those new, involved choices to make every step of the way - as compared to "Record-Zoom-Done"-- But of course I dug deeper, got used to it, and started discovering soft synths which eventually replaced my dear old Korg X5dr.

Yes, Windsurfer, it really is amazing the tools we have available.  Amazing in fact.
