Nice time signature! Very creative vocals, and drumming is very powerful. Mix-wise, I think your vocals should be at least a little louder than the bass. Your bass is pretty darn hot in this track, maybe drop it a tad and push your vocals just a bit louder?

Push the bass back a tad and bring the main vocal up (leave the FX where they are). Drums get lost in spots when the guitars come up. You may want to consider panning the guitars out of center to leave space for the drums.

    Weird is good.

Love that effect on the opening bass lick. Nice Ian Anderson vibe on the vocal.

I hear some distortion in there that may not be intentional. Check your meters during the builds, you may be driving it a little too hard.

Thanks for the feedback. I was kind of uncertain about the balance after mixing a bit too long. Will go back and tweak a bit.

Thanks for your feedback. The distortion on the louder vocal parts are intentional. They were driven (during recording) through a tube preamp to get the vocal to break up a little. The effect on the bass intro is actually a synth (Rapture), which is still there (lower) during verses.
    All the best.

With that title, I wasn't really expecting what you did here. I'm not sure what I was expecting, come to think of it. But it's a really cool song with great interplay between the fundamental riff and the vocal, really good playing and singing and quite a lot of fun to listen to. You have a very cool voice, I agree it's definitely got an Ian Anderson look to it, and that's a really good thing. I like the musical space in this song, and like dcumpian has said, it gives you a lot of opportunity to play with some separation via panning the guitars out which should make it even huger. That's not a real word, is it? :)

Oh well, I'll stop now. Thanks for sharing this!

Thanks, Kevin for the positive feedback. Appreciate it. I will definetively try to make it "huger" I have 4 guitars on the busiest part, and should probably pan the first guitars (which is panned more towards the center) more out when the second guitars come in, to open up more space for the rest.

Very cool song. I agree with the mix advice given so far. I definitely hear the Ian Anderson quality in your voice. The time signature and guitar progression give it a very Tool-esque feel. I like it.

    Thanks for the feedback, guys.
Have tried to lower the bass, spread the guitar more and increased the vocals. I am sitting in a very poor (sound wise) room, and not sure weather or not the changes I made are "good enough"?

    Hey, Ken,

Very cool song with a definite "Tool" vibe, excellent vocals, nice punchy, gritty guitars and lots of attitude!

I also really like the intro with the bass and synth build and the outro echo effect on the vocals.

Here on my system, it seems that the only instrument panned wide is the synth, and the guitars still seem mostly centered along with the bass, drums and vocals.  Since you've got four guitar tracks, maybe try panning two extreme left and right, and the others at 50% left and right to get them away from the middle a bit more.  Of course everything in music production is always subjective, and the song sounds excellent as it is!

You've got a dynamite modern rocker here, Ken, great stuff!

    Best wishes,
    Bob

I like it!!!   Always love odd time signatures, particularly when they're not overly obvious.   I'm hearing a bit of Jonathan Davis in the vocals - cool.   Mix-wise, it just needs more punch IMO to match the attitude behind the song. The weirdo just needs to put the steel toed boots on and kick @@.

Great playing and performance - the vocal should come down in the mix in my opinion - it's a bit too clean and up front in the mix for this style.

Thanks, Daryl. I am going to try to get the guitars up / wider, and see if that helps with the vocals as well. I am always having trouble with (along with everything else) the volume of my vocals, as I am (still) not fully comfortable with hearing my own voice "on tape".

I am having difficulty making the right changes (again). I sit in a terrible room (for the time being), and can not hear subtle changes I make. And I do not feel comfortable mixing on my headset. I feel I might have to leave this for now, and move on. I thank you all for your feedback.
    All the best.
