I revisited an old project today.

I revisited an old project today. I was surprised when I opened it to see that it has instances of "Cakewalk FX" in it. I replaced the effects with the latest greatest stuff and mixed the song with some minor changes.

I went and looked at the original audio files and checked out the "date created". It was 2003.

12 years old and the old .cwp project opens right up and it plays smoother than ever. I thought that was pretty cool.

I agree Mike, that is cool that Sonar has solid backward compatibility!

    McQ,

I started re-mixing a song from 1989 that was comprised of MIDI and vocal/guitar tracks recorded (originally) on Tascam 1/2" 8 track tape then transferred to ADAT (in 1992) then transferred to SONAR in 2007.

All the MIDI was originally sent to Alesis HR16, Roland Juno 2 and a Yamaha FB-01. Since I no longer have those external synths I am replacing the sounds with KONTAKT and EZDrummer2.

    Good Times :-)

Not done yet, but the new mix feels more open and modern.

I am interested to know which version you opened it in, too.

Was it Sonar Classic/Legacy, or an up-to-date version?

Out of interest, did you feel your mixing skills had improved, or did you find it hard to re-connect with the original vibe?  I know that I have mixed results with older projects.
