I say be glad for the unique log-in...

Ah, Stinkberg...

The process of installing and authorizing my products has been pretty seamless so far except for one case - an expansion library for Retrologue which I can't seem to retrieve online. I usually back up my installers but that one must have slipped through the crack.

Apparently, chez Steinberg, such purchases are available for download for 14 days after you bought them. Meaning that if you need to re-install, you must contact Stinkberg. Which is a lot easier said than done - it seems that every part of their gosh darn web site requires a log-in.

Took me a while and a few passwords resets to realize that my online shop account credentials didn't work to reach the online shop support - I had to create a new log-in for that specific part of the site in order to ask them to let me download a product I paid for.

Fortunately, I'm almost done now - Kontakt, the Korg synths, EZ Drummer and I'll be done.

I have very few steinberg products.  in fact, even the ones I have, I don't use any more!  ;-)

part of the reason I don't have many is because I just simply don't like them as a company.  their business is not "customer oriented" at all.

having said that, I also have some MOTU equipment.  they are even less "customer oriented" than steiny.  if you can believe that!  but their stuff is solid and works!

I guess that's typical Mac user speak, but I dream of the day where everything will be distributed through the app store.

Buy a new computer, log in, download and you're done. No need to browse through e-mails to find an authorization key or a log-in and a password, no need to install a bunch of apps for the sole purpose of authorizing you software...

Even though I've only installed the essential and discarded most of my 3rd party software, I wish I could have done away with it altogether. But the Waves and IK stuff had to say for the sake of old projects, and so did a couple of other plugs.
