Hello Scott! I just wanted to say I just received my Sonar 5 Power & SoundForge 8 Power Books & GOD knows I won't get through them tonight but just from the flip & scanning I've done, it looks like some of your best work yet! Also, my wife & I have 5 1/2 Horses (5 Full Size Registered Nags & one Miniture Registered Horse) along with 2 dogs, 2 cats, 1 Cockatoo named Crow that's been a member of the Family for 18 years & we relate to your Forward concerning, "Figaro"! I had the same Mother/son cats for 22 1/2 years & the son for 21 years. I'll never forget I was playing with the band, "Blackfoot",, the Harmonica Solo on, "Train Train" at a place called, "Harpo's" in Detroit & I knew when I came home from the show she was going to be in "Kitty Heaven" & man I cried before going on Stage but as most know,,, when you have that much emotion goin, you can play like you've never played before! I'll never forget it! I lucked up as Jesse already bought himself a copy but I was absolutely going to do as I offered! Thanks for a Super Book Scott! Sincerely, Wildman

Scott, I have Power 4 and have ordered Power 5 and am a subscriber to your DigiFreq newsletter. You do good work, my man, and I want to say "Thanks" for helping a newbie to Sonar. I would also second the suggestion for a Project 5 Power book. Maybe if enough people show an interest . . .

For Garrigus or those who have the book... How much detail does the book go into about the V-vocal? One of the complaints I heard is the manual doesn't go into much detail about it, so just wondering if the S5 Power book covers it better? Thanks!

Hi Wildman -- Thanks so much for purchasing both books! I really appreciate the support. Yeah, I still miss Figaro a lot. I wanted to do something special for him, so I'm I was able to dedicate the Sonar 5 Power book to him. I set up a topic over on the DigiFreq board for him as well: http://www.digifreq.com/digifreq/discussdetail.asp?TopicID=8246 Thanks for sharing your pet stories too! If you ever get through the books, it would be great to get a couple reviews posted up at Amazon from ya. Thanks! Hi Larry -- Thanks for your support too! I'm glad to hear you're enjoying the book. If you have a chance, can you post a review up at Amazon after you've read the book? Thanks! Hi Jerry -- My pleasure. Always happy to help when I can. And thanks so much for purchasing my books! I hope you enjoy the new one. Thanks for letting me know about Project5 too. I'm still thinking about it. Hi BlackDog -- Sonar 5 Power does cover V-Vocal better than the manual, but it's still not advanced. You might pick up some tips for its use though. In the meantime, you can find an excerpt from the book about V-Vocal on my site. Just go to the Sonar 5 Power book page and look under the Excerpts section: http://www.garrigus.com/powerbooks.asp Thanks! Scott -- Scott R. Scott Hi Scott, Yeah, that would be my only "complaint" as such, is that the book is too large to sit down and read in one sitting. It's got so much info, both new and old, that it will have to be more of a reference manual for me rather than a "sit down and read" book. The only suggestion I would make is perhaps there would be a way to separate the book into a "previous features" section and a "new features" section so that owners of the previous versions of your Sonar Power books wouldn't have to reread topics/techniques that have been very thoroughly covered already. Of course, I have no real idea how you could parse it up that way and retain the cohesiveness of the book, but I just know that I found myself flipping over section after section thinking "OK, been there, covered that... Know this..." and such. However, I would have to agree that even in its present form it's a MUST HAVE for me!!! -mr moon

Hi Scott -- Looks like a great book, and I'll probably buy a copy. Not to hijack your thread, but I checked out the book listing on Amazon -- and found this in the middle of it: Customers interested in this title may also be interested in: Sponsored Links: What is this? Download Sonar Full Sonar software for only $42.75 One-time fee, unlimited downloads www.NoWeAreNotReallyPiratesWeJustLetYouDownloadStuff.com (URL changed for obvious reasons) It's just what it sounds like. Pay $43 bucks for membership, and download "thousands of CDs and movies -- absolutely free!". Oh, and software too. Sonar, lots of other apps. It's hardly the first time I've seen stuff like that -- but it's generally on warez sites. It's pretty outrageous that Amazon allows a sponsored link for a site that essentially promotes software piracy -- especially when it's a "Hey, Steal Sonar Here!" promotional insert in the middle of a list for a book about using Sonar. I sent Amazon customer support a flame ... they're "looking into it". Funny -- I thought they were in the business of selling copyrighted intellectual property at a fair price. (FWIW, I feel the upgrade price I paid for Sonar 4 was fair -- and it was a lot more than $43). I'm a bit surprised Amazon doesn't have the same "sponsored link" in their CD listings, so you can read the customer reviews and then download the CDs without paying Amazon (not to mention the artists), but maybe that'll come next year.... Wonder if they'll put up a link to a free PDF of your book soon.... - Jim

Hey Mr. Moon -- Ha! That's the first time I've heard anyone complain one of my books contained too much information. I know what you mean though. It's a very large book, but Sonar is so deep, it was necessary. Regarding the new features, I do provide a list in chapter 2 of the new features and in what chapters they are covered. Unfortunately, I can't provide specific page numbers because I don't know the page layout while I'm writing the book. I'm glad you're enjoying it though. Thanks! Hi M -- Thanks very much for ordering the book! I hope you enjoy it. Hi Jim -- Thanks! I appreciate your support. I hope you enjoy the book as well. I didn't know about the Amazon thing. Thanks for letting me know. I'll pass the info along to my publisher to see what they can do. I hate piracy! Scott -- Scott R. Hi Scott -- I've just ordered my Sonar 5 upgrade, so of course I had to "power" it up as well. I was glad to see that the software pirate "sponsored link" has disappeared; there are now two sponsored links for legit discount etailers. Looking forward to some midnight reading -- Jim

Scott, you are the man. I just ordered my upgrade to S5PE, and I went to Amazon and ordered Sonar 5 Power. Keep up the good work. I also would really like to see you do a P5 V2 book with an in depth explanation of Dimension. The way you break everything down really makes it easy for anyone to understand. I have Sonar Power 2, and 4, so I am familiar with your work. Are you strictly a Sonar guy, or do you work with other DAW software?

Hi Kb420, Thanks very much! I appreciate your support and I hope you enjoy the book. I'm sure you're going to have fun with Sonar 5. Lots of cool new features there. I have access to and have used other software, but most of my experience has been with Sonar. I've been considering writing other books or doing tutorials though. Lots of plans, but not enough time to accomplish them all. I think the reason many people enjoy my books is because of my attention to detail. I usually take longer than the average writer to complete a project, but I like to take my time and create a good project rather than rushing things. I wish I could work faster, but I know the work would suffer if I did. Thanks! Scott -- Scott R. Hi JTJams -- I never did buy the 1804 -- I got an Emu 1820M instead, and haven't had the need for more than 2 channels in live situations. FWIW, it was reviewed in the January 2006 SoundOnSound (John Walden). Pros: "Very good audio quality. Good driver performance. Easy to use." Cons: Only basic input level monitoring on front panel." His major criticisms were: For potential purchasers weighing up the FW1804 alongside the various other Firewire audio and MIDI interfaces available, two features are worth emphasising. First, the front-panel monitoring of the audio input levels provided by the Signal and OL LEDs for each input can, at best, be described as 'basic' — it does the job without fuss, but if you need more precise information on input levels, this will have to be achieved through your software. Second, unless you can make use of the digital connectivity, the FW1804 is only stereo-out. Obviously, if you envisage needing multiple analogue outs to feed a surround monitoring system or integrate external effects units, then this particular Tascam unit is not going to be for you. You can download the owners manual from Tascam and see if the features will work for you. Stereo outputs would work fine for me (you can get more via ADAT or S/PDIF), but YMMV. It's a pretty detailed review (like most SOS reviews); available currently by e-Subscription or perhaps at "a quality newstand near you". - Jim
