I should have known better... Installation Issue

I downloaded the trial and had no issues so decided to get the upgrade.
Should have known better, for some reason it seems that Cakewalk can just not get there act together.
After speaking to their support (cudos there it was fast to get through to a person) I uninstalled the trial
.
Loaded the full X1, loaded a test project and tried to use the Pro Channel, pro channel can't find any of the PCS-Nuke dll's, it wants to load them from ...\internal trial directory.
I don't see any place to change this location ???

Have tried to uninstall and re-install 3 times, have downloaded and applies both the A and B patches.

Any ideas ??

Hope this is not the sign of things to come as I have been using Studio One for the last few months without any issues at all.

Maybe start SONAR with the shift key down?  IIRC, that used to be like some sort of reset trigger that would cause SONAR to rebuild certain settings.

Sounds like the trial did not fully uninstall. Perhaps loading x1 over the trial caused it not to uninstall correctly. Most likely you will need to uninstall and then remove all the registry entries created by sonar. Then a new install should correct the problem.

I'd suggest a full manual uninstall.
    • Uninstall via Control Panel>Programs and Features
    • Delete all Cakewalk related folders
    • Delete all Sonar X1 registry entries under HKLM and HKCU
Now reinstall X1 and apply the patches

As I stated in my original post, I have uninstalled and re installed 3 times.
Including deleting every trace of X1 on my files system.
The only thing I have not done is tried to remove any X1 entries from the registry, as I don't believe in messing with that,
I am working around the problem by creating the directory it is looking for (...internal trial/) and copying the DLL's there.

The other thing I have noticed is both Dimension Pro and Rapture have lost a bunch samples so I guess I will have to reload them.
I really do think Cakewalk needs to get their act together on software delivery.

You don't believe? The registry is whats pointing sonar at the trial directories. You can create the folders and copy the files but you will most likely encounter problems as you apply updates. Please heed the advise that is offered to you by myself and Jim.

I was mobile when I posted before but Jim has given you the detailed instructions.

I agree that Cake should improve their install/uninstall programs but for now just remove the registry entries and reinstall. I think You will be happy with the result.

I will do that but no program should require you to edit the registry.
Also I just started my first session where I could sit down and layout a few ideas, wouldn't you know it after recording three 8 bar parts (session Drummer, Rapture and Dim Pro, X1 just hung...  Full reboot required.

To be honest I think I just through away another $79 on Sonar.
Instead of fancy interfaces (which I do like) they should have fixed the underlying issues.
After using Studio One for a few months you come to realize that problems like these need  not happen.

Sometimes you have to decide whether you want to "be right" and feel vindicated or making music.

I agree that it seems that installers and uninstallers are the most dangerous part of any program and seem to be the part that gets the least attention.  I've had to manually clean out the registry many times - and not just because of SONAR.  I can do it pretty fast now.
