FF and this forum don't get along well. I've been manually typing my own HTML and using the full message box (not the quick reply as when I add tags I get the error message) when necessary.

I converted to Chrome a long time ago. A worthy upgrade. Much better than Firefox.

You can edit the post if you delete and repost the original links inside the post. It gives the error message because it changes the format of the links once it has been posted.

@pwal... I was quite surprised to find out that a company as tech savvy as CW hosted a forum that made FF poop itself. No biggie but it is a little odd. I find myself not bothering with posts sometimes because I don't feel like dorking around with the HTML. Maybe it's a conspiracy to keep my post count down. lulz

Damn... I knew a guy from another forum who used to write cool code for FF that could customize specific forums with all sorts of neat gadgets and stuff... but he died a few months ago. :-(

I got tired of Firefox for various reasons, not the least of which was its performance on this forum. I switched to Google Chrome, which has been absolutely great. Speedier, less issues with plugins etc. Chrome seems to work perfectly on this website. I have an old dog of a laptop that I use for Netflix and browsing on a TV in my bedroom - I also switched that from Firefox to Chrome and the performance increased significantly.

You're probably not aware of the history.

    1. The forum software is behind a few revisions.
    2. CW made customizations to the version in use, making it "complicated" to simply upgrade to the latest version. It's called a business decision.
    3. Firefox used to work (version 3.5 or summin like that) but not now

I probably should give Chrome another look but I'm a hardcore FF fanboi. The one thing I really disliked about Chrome was I couldn't have all my script/adblockers going but I think the newer versions of Chrome handle more Add Ons. However the only way I'd switch is if NoScript was an option. I know you can use Ghostery on it but I didn't care for Ghostery. I'm also a little disappointed in Google ever since they crossed over to the dark side a few months ago. It makes me question how much data mining they do on Chrome users. This is the only forum I use that it really makes a difference though I mostly just insert paragraphs when I'm being particularly long winded. It turns links into hyperlinks automatically and on the rare occasion I might post a pic I can just toss in the HTML for that too. Good practice anyway because I'm writing a "book" that I'd like people to be able to open in a browser for extra links, features, diagrams, etc... so getting into the habit of adding tags is annoying but useful.

@Bapu Yeah... I figured it might be something like that. They'd probably have to sacrifice part of the database or something in the upgrade which for a site like this would be BAD. Gotta keep those archived nuggets of info online. I'm looking at maybe using a cookie cutter forum template like this for a site in the future. Don't think I'd go with this one though.

I used Chrome for a couple of months but came back to Firefox because Chrome seems to send surfing information for Google. Firefox used to be slow but now it's fast enough and it has all the add-ons one will ever need. CW Forums is currently the only place I have problems with FF. I can live with it by composing shorter posts and by avoiding formatting. Once again I got this message when clicking "Post Message": HTTP Error 500 - Internal Server Error ASPPlayground.NET Forum Software. Was it because I tried to use html code to add a new paragraph?

@panup... Yeah, see I KNEW google just wanted people to use their browser so they could collect data. Sneaky buggers. And yes, the HTML is why you got an error message. You can avoid the error while using HTML by clicking the (Open Full Version) thingy above the Quick Reply comment box and typing your post in that. The Quick Reply does not like HTML + newer versions of FF.

    Yes... It can be frustrating...

I've been using Firefox for a very long time... I have internet explorer on all my pc's (of course) and Safari on my macs....

They all work fine... I don't care for Safari so I use Firefox on all the machines as my goto browser and I've left it at version 5.0 as it has no problems with the Sonar forum which is probably the site I visit most....

On the Mac, I believe I'm using firefox 11 and I haven't noticed any issues with the Sonar forum there, so I'm firefox everywhere....

I don't know what things are new/improved in Firefox's versions after 5, but I haven't noticed anything even on the mac's 11.0 version....

    Go figure?

I use FF 3.5 and it mashes my replies. FireFox development has been financed by google for some time now. Also, the "save file as" directory memory is broken in later versions.

I am very interested in getting ProChannel modules into the FX bin. Panup, what do I do to achieve that? Or are those only teasers?

    Edit: Oh, sonarmods.com - OK.

Jazzsinger, come to sonarmods.com to see the instructions. At least LA-2A is superb easy to put in FX bin and so are the Saturation Knob and Expander/Gate. The first built-in fx (EQ, 1176, 4k Bus Compressor and Tube Saturation) may be lost but all the others should work in FX bin by minimal changes. Let's not talk about this subject at this forum...

    Re:I still like X1 2012/05/24 17:54:03 (permalink)
I think really the only major changes in FF are some little GUI tweaks (that I can't remember specifically now but I remember thinking "Oh that's cool") and how it uses system resources so it's not such a hog. It was really annoying for a while there last year though when they were trying catch up with their version updates. A new version came out every week or so for about six months and occasionally it would break stuff. Since the new year it's settled back down and they're all caught up. And as far as Google tossing them some financing that's not too bad... just as long as they aren't forcing their intrusive coding and crap into which I don't think Mozilla would allow. Now that you've told me about that I'm guessing that Google was behind the new "Allow Some Non Intrusive Ads" setting but unlike Google Mozilla were completely upfront about that and detailed how to disable it... which of course I did immediately.

I quite like Chrome but there's so many add-ons I use in FF I can't tear myself away. IE sends me crazy it always seems to want to make the address bar the active element just when I don't want it to be.

I use FF V5 here and it runs like a dream. I'm not sure how old that makes it as far as I can make out major FF upgrades are released weekly.

I think the newer FF works if you use IE Tab. I did try that but I had problems with something, inserting images or links IIRC which I do quite a lot, so I gave up and went back to FF5.

For anyone looking for older versions you'll find them HERE There's everything from V0.8 to the latest Beta. I think that's about a months worth of updates.
