I suddenly really want one of these...
Or at least, to try one. Sweetwater has them going for $299 - that's a $100 price drop, I think. If I'm not mistaken, you don't even need to hook them to a cab and they have a DI/emulated output built in (which seems pretty impressive if the video demos are to be trusted). Though I'd obviously want to get a little 1x12 matching cab later. I was planning/trying to budget a MIM strat - but I guess I could revert to my previous plan and have my old MIA fixed. Anyway, I rarely let go of the SGJ these days. My other option was trying to find a little 1x12 combo amp that I liked for under $500. But that little H&K looks like quite a deal.

Yeah, I'd much rather if it looked like this: But at $299 for such an otherwise cool amp, I can put up w/ blue. :P

I tried plugged into one a GC 3 or 4 weeks ago and really liked it, Rain. I thought it covered a lot of tones and sounded really good.

It escapes me precisely who at the moment, but one our fellow forum members has one which he also like quite a bit IIRC. I'll have to try one. I've watched a bunch of demos and I liked what I heard - but then again, that's not always reliable. Also, Tommy Thayer of KISS uses H&K and I like the tones he gets. All in all, they do seem to cover a lot of tones which I'd be likely to use.

I'm building 2 different 5 watt amps right now. The first one is based on a tweed Princeton and the other is a British model. You hook one up to a 2x12 cab and you get amazing tone for recording. I'm also doing the attenuator for silent use with headphones or as a line out. We seem to be on a journey to smallness as everyone gets old. I can't buy the parts for $299. H&K make great gear, I even love their solid state stuff. And I hate solid state stuff.
Regards, John I want to make it clear that I am an Eedjit. I have no direct, or indirect, knowledge of business, the music industry, forum threads or the meaning of life. I know about amps. And, just for fun, a reply that's ON topic! (Imagine that.) I know a couple of guys who have just gotten one of these and are raving about it (in a very good way): Several 5 watt channels of goodness plus higher wattage if it's necessary. (Sorry Rain, it also seems to only have blue lights - lol).

Yeah, that one would obviously be awesome - but it costs 3 times as much, and I already have to stretch the budget a bit to get the H&K. :P

And yes, I am quite fond of it. The clean side is amazing to my ears. The 1x12 matching cabinet sounds very good with it. I had the Sweetwater sales guy hook up a couple different cabinets to it and I went with the H&K cab. The overdrive side could be 'better' but if you use pedals or a processor then that becomes a wash anyway. My .02 Dave

Thanks for chiming in, Dave - and sorry that I couldn't remember it was you. :/ I'm more and more sold to the idea with every hour that passes - and it will be hard to be patient. I've recently bought a Boss Super OD - my first pedal in almost 20 years - so I am indeed warming up again to the idea of using a stomp box, though admittedly, I'll try and see if I can get the amp's gain to work for me.
