I sure hope they release an update for X2 soon.
I've had the most frustrating night working with Sonar. Bugs, crashes, wrestling with temperamental automation nodes. But most of all the crashes. I've had crashes galore tonight, just doing the most innocuous things like drawing in automation or moving a clip. I ditched Pro Tools because of the frequency with which its audio engine crashed (and 32-bit....pah). But with Sonar, I don't even have to be playing music back for it to crash. It happens when I'm clicking around in the track view, or more often, clicking around in the console and in ProChannels. I'm really hanging in there for an update to fix some of these problems. Because quite frankly I'm not managing to be that productive with X2. I spend half my evening trying to get to the bottom of quirks and bugs and restarting after crashes. Sorry to be so negative, but there it is

There is a Quickfix in the support/knowledge base on Cw website. Tried that? Also recommends you to download the latest visual studio (2012) from Microsoft. Are you running firewire or usb? If fw, use 1394 OHCI legacy drivers in Windows 7. Hopefully this helps:)

If you have not installed the quickfix please do so since it addresses some common crashes and random instability scenarios. If you already have the quickfix installed, its very important that you log problem reports so that we have something specific to investigate. You could have an underlying system problem or are running into a workflow specific issue that is not logged. Please list any CWBRN numbers that you have logged and/or contact support so that they can work with you on isolating the issues.

Done all of the above, except the latest Visual Studio. But don't applications usually install the require C++ redistributable when installing themselves? Will give it a go though.

Hi Noel: I always let Sonar send Cakewalk the crash info if it gives me the option - sometimes it hangs without giving me that option though. The trouble is that a lot of the time, I cannot even pinpoint exactly what action made it crash. I'll be clicking away and at some point realize that it's not responsive. Did it happen when I clicked Guitar Rig in the FX chain? Or when I turned off the EQ? Hard to say when your attention is not 100% (me at 2am generally!)

X2 is running very good here. I think, if you had issues and crashes with Pro Tools and then also with Sonar, most likely your system has a problem. cheers

submarin X2 is running very good here. I think, if you had issues and crashes with Pro Tools and then also with Sonar, most likely your system has a problem. cheers I'm not so sure about that. Give me a perfect system and any sequencer out there and I will find a way to make it crash. You can look at the bug fix lists and forums for any of them and find lots of bugs and recipes to make them crash. It's the nature of complex software. (Not to say that some aren't better than others.) There's no reason to assume that because it doesn't crash on your system with your workflow that someone else will not see crashes. There are a huge number of permutations of perfectly good hardware and plugs, and a software vendor can't possibly test all of them. I'll bet when the X2 update comes out the release notes will have lots of lines like "Fixed issue that could cause system crash when xxxxxx " Maybe he's doing xxxxxx as part of his workflow and you aren't. Regards, John

I ended up ReWire-ing it to Reaper and hosting the instruments on that. But that was a pain to be honest, and brought with it other problems.

I can honestly say that it did some good improvements for me. One thing is that R-Mix suddenly run correctly. Prior to Visual Studio 2012 update the GUI of R-Mix only was a totally white box (even though I heard the audio processing correctly). Also seem more stable. I would highly recommend it! Thanks, John So I installed the 2012 C++ redistributional (I presume that's what was meant, since Visual Studio itself is the development tool), and it hasn't seemed to make much difference. I'm still getting hangs. R-Mix has always worked good for me, so whatever issues were causing yours to freak out before the quickfix I guess I don't have. In terms of plugins, I would say that 98% of what I use are either the ProChannel modules or 64-bit Native Instruments plugs, although I do have the odd 32-bit plug (maybe bitbridge is the problem). What I'm finding though is that a lot of my hangs happen when the audio isn't even playing - it's when I'm clicking around the clips pane, especially when working with automation.

Soens: I am running Visual Studio 2012. For me, that fixed some issues I had win Sonar. I've also heard that this improves Windows 8, but haven't noticed much myself. I was highly recommended in another thread to update (don't remember which one though). Sharke: Yes, 2012 C++... It worked for me, so not sure what can cause your problems. Sorry to hear this. Have you run Virus check, updated drivers etc?? I've heard that some people have experienced Bitbridge problems, but don't know i what way. Which I could help you more. Contact CW tech support might help you. Good Luck!

I too have become very anxious for an update. After fighting my way thru the plethora of issues moving to a new PCM as well as moving into the x64 realm, I get frustrated with the myriad of issues with lanes... Right now lanes are killing the X2 experience for me... I'm just not getting any actual music made... Keni

Omni G’day The occasional crash is no big deal to me The more I save my work the less crashes I get. (I think there is a connection here!) I also use auto-save. My frustrations with X2 are issues that IMHO should have been fixed with beta testing. "Folder Headers" Projects saved with "Folder Headers" diminished in size, but on reopening project. “Folder Headers" are expanded. It only happens on some and not all projects so it’s not a feature. Peak markers display incorrectly The green vertical line displays fine but the numerical figures in white are truncated and only refreshes properly when I zoom out/in Waveform preview When a bus is clipping then preview tells me so… cool Turn bus down and play same measures repeatedly and I get a different visual display every time . That is to say, the actual wave size varies and what is red or green vary when no digital clipping is happening. Turn Waveform preview off/on and it displays properly. I never experienced any of these issues in 8.5.3 It seems to me the bakers have made some great improvements in X1 and X2 to speed up the workflow, but this is offset with irritating NEW! gremlins that slow down my workflow. Oh how I wish I had the best of X2 and 8.5.3 in one program. Hoping very much that these issues are all me, and some kind sole with explain what I am doing/not doing correctly. Off topic… Keni it’s time for a new hat! The old one is curling up at the edges.
