I think I have a problem...

Saturday night a group of 10 of us went to see the band Daughtry as a friend is their new keyboard player. We went in a limo (a 2 hour drive) and I swear I only had 2-3 beers on the way BUT also a few Jello (Jelly in UK) shots. So, we had another beer in the bar around the corner from the venue and then made our way to the gig. I sat and enjoyed the support band and then finally Daughtry came on. So 3 songs in, I fell asleep. They tried to wake me several times but failed. I slept through the whole set and (apparently) several encores. The only evidence that I was even at the gig was that my ears were ringing this morning. This also happens whenever I go to the movies so maybe it's the combination of comfortable seats and the dim lighting. I am proud to say that I have slept through every one of the Harry Potter movies.

I slept through the only one I was conned into watching.

The only gig I ever 'slept' through was Dire Straits once at the Hammersmith Odeon.  I can attribute that to stuff other than the surroundings though.

That's a bloody good effort Daryl.

I've never slept thru a gig although I have never seen SNorah Jones play live.

The whole band or just Daughtry?

I have a friend who's slept through movies for as long as I've known him(30 years).  It doesn't matter what kind of movie either.

You may have the same problem as I have--getting old.  I don't drink much alcohol these days because I tend to fall asleep before I get drunk anyway.  What's the point if you can't enjoy it?

Maybe a little caffeine will help before you go to the next show.

Should auld acquaintance be forgot--hey, who the hell are you guys?

A few years ago when my 3 kids were much younger, I took them to see an afternoon movie. I remember seeing the opening titles then the next thing I remember was my kids waking me up saying that the movie had finished. :)

Yea, back in the 80’s we were drinking vodka and doing whip-its in the back of a cab in Manhattan on the way to see Zappa … and to this day it is still one of my biggest concert regrets, not sure if I fell asleep or passed out but I have very little memory of the Zappa concert.

I fall asleep when I'm driving, sometimes in opera, but never in movies.
I think it's because I've gone to school by buss since I was five. The humming of the motor automatically puts me to sleep mode.  I have a 25 minute drive from work to home, and I sometimes have to slap myself and shout aloud to keep myself awake. It's only in the afternoon, going home, though. No matter if the day has been heavy or not. In areas I'm not familiar with the problem does not occur.

In my case, using the auto pilot makes it easier to stay awake.

Right with you Daryl, I get that 'snoozy' feeling in the cinema every time.

I got quite a few 'Z's in during Status Quo at Wembley back in the late '80's, no 'relaxants' were required.

When my daughter was 9 she pestered us to take her to see Del Amitri, she had a big crush on the singer. She was right into it all, watched the support act, jumping up and down and clapping. The 'Dels' came on, and she raced to the front. She watched the first number then put her coat on the floor, curled up and went to sleep, with the crowd forming a nice little semi-circle around her.

I would get checked out Daryl, just to be safe. I used to be like this through 6 / 7 years of my forties, having to pull over to have a doze in the car in mid afternoon etc.

I put it down to advancing middle age. Turns out I was ill all along. Now I am better, my energy has returned. Just sayin'

EDIT, Not wanting to be a neg, just trying to help. I re-read your OP and you did have a few beers and mixed your drinks also, so... maybe it has this effect on you, and that's all...

Daryl

I did that at the Monsters of Rock at Donnington I think back in '86 I think. We would rent a bus and everyone brought a different bottle, it was about a 2 hour trip from where we were-NOT GOOD in this situation. Gave us plenty of time to make sure nothing was wasted before getting there.

Needless to say I remember getting off the buss, I do remember waking up under the bus when OZZY came on, I remember my head hitting the ground again then waking up back at home  Oh the MEMORIES

I'm sure you're as fit as you say Daryl, but when was the last time your blood was checked for sugar levels etc?

Before my diagnosis, my levels were absolutely sky high and I had no idea what was going on.

Actually, no.  I probably have only seen 2 or 3 episodes in the history of the show.  I didn't even know he was an Idol winner until after the release of his first record (which is when I heard of him)
