I thought I loved my VSTs until

I got my OB6. It sounds so fat and amazing - even with all the fx off.

I'm sorry, VSTs still have a ways to go. Either that, or Dave Smith and Tom Oberhiem still have the mojo.

If you want to have a "fat analog" sound from a VSTi, then record it to tape and digitaze it back to SONAR.
But never take a tape emulation - take a real tape, such as a Studer A80.
Therefore Steven Slate records his drumsets with a tape machine.

We digitize tapes, vinyl, dat, md ... in broadcast and studio quality for publishers, public institutions and individuals.
    4 x Intel Quad-CPU, 4GHz Sonar Platinum (Windows 10 - 64Bit) and 14 computers for recording tapes, vinyl ...

    4 x RME Fireface 800, 2 x Roland Octa Capture and 4 x Roland Quad Capture, Focusrite .... Studer A80, RP99, EMT948 ...

Dave Smith still has it, I'd say. The Prophet 6 is also great (and much better than the somehow disappointing '08).

Part of it is psychoacoustics I'm sure but a gorgeous tweakable interface does work inspiring and lets you play better.

I like Dave Smith's stuff and have an Evolver, but Omnisphere 2 is rich and phat.
