I want to see it all!!

I was wondering what size LCD Monitor I'd need in order to be able to capture the entire screen shot of the "Console View".
As it stands right now, I have a 17" LCD Monitor, and it doesn't allow me to see the whole Console View.
The only way I can view the entire Console is if I turn off the "Send" button.
I was wondering if it would make a difference if I had a larger monitor, or would the screen shot just adjust itself to a larger screen the same way it's viewed on mine.
Does anyone know the answer to this?

    Hi Harpo-

What screen resolution are you running? Is your Console View window maximized (double-click on the Title bar or click on the box in the upper right if you're not sure)?

Aside from Sue's thought's...the best way to handle Cakewalk view is with a dual monitor setup. A 17" is adequate, and you can certainly get work done, but even at the 1024 resolution setting it's not going to be a lot of real estate to see or use.

You cant see the entire height of the tracks or you have to scroll to the right to see all of your tracks?

Hmm..... I would say that depends on the number of tracks in any given mix. I have a project that I am mixing now that has well over 100 tracks.

Just figure out what your average track count is and go from there. Of course, you can squeeze them together will a higher screen resolution and clicking that squeeze button thingy in the console view.

And if I did get another monitor, what would be the optimal screen size in order to view the entire console view?
Or are you saying, (which I don't think you are) that in order to see the entire Consloe view screenshot you need to have "two" monitors?
    Susan G
What resolution are you using? And, do you, (or anyone for that matter) have the ability to see the complete console view without making any maual adjustments?

That depends on how many tracks you want to display and whether you're using wide/narrow strips.

With my Dell 2405FPW at 1920x1200 (which I got for less than $800 on special), I can display 30 narrow tracks and 3 buses, which is very adequate for me. There is a single button to toggle all tracks wide/narrow, so that's pretty easy.

I'm sorry, I really wasn't clear enough about what I'm trying to do here.
I'm really not concerned about the "width" of the view, I want to be able to see the whole view "height" wise!
    Is this possible?

Yes, I know that's what you meant, which is why I asked you what I did! Turning off the "Send" button was the clue.

    1280 x 1024, and yes. If I reduce it to 1024 x 768, no (but I get a vertical scrollbar).

    Hi Susan
    Thanks!
You got it right on the button! It was a screen resolution issue. I switched mine from 1024 X 768 to 1280 X 960. The smallness of evrything will take a bit of time to get used to, but it definitely serves the purpose!

    I am running 3 monitors.
1 each PCI video card and 1 twin-out AGP.

2 each 15" lcd's and a 27" Plasma HDTV which also has SVGA input.
I put the track view on the 27" and use the 15's for undocked stuff, like the console view.

Makes real estate a non-problem (almost).

For those whose screen resolution isn't the limitation, unlocking the taskbar and dragging it to be bottom of the screen gives you just a little more space. I don't usually have too many programs running when I'm in session, and ALT-TAB and the Start key give my about all I could need for functionality.
Of course, the taskbar can be dragged back up and locked in place when you're done...

Hey Harpo - what 17" LCD do you have? Most 17"s use the same res as a 19" flat panel - 1280x1024 and, while smaller, look way better/sharper at that res, and if you are not on a widescreen monitor, the 960 number is going to make everything look funky proportion-wise. Try 1280x1024 for a few days and see if it's note actually EASIER to read than the lower res (and gets you more realestate)

    YES!

All LCD's should be run in their native resolution whenever possible. That'll be 1280X1024 for all 17" panels and 99% of 19" panels. If you do not use the native resolution, the DSP in the monitor will have to interpolate the pixels and the image will be relatively fuzzy.

    Really?
Okay. I'll take your suggestion Blades.
My eyesight is not (or never has been) even close to 20 20 vision, and I thought that the bigger the font on your screen, the easier to read. I didn't know all the details pertaining to resolution in relation to the size of your LCD and pixels, etc.
    Thanks for the info.
    I'll give it a try!
