I was thinking...

that I'd like to turn wood after I get my shop built and the thought
about drumsticks and how little I know about them...

Would you drummers mind filling me in please. I can imagine there are tapes, tips, wood preference, length etc...
and thanks up front as I am very interested.

Michael
oh...and application if that applies...like for just sitting around drumming on mags or if ya use the same sticks for everything...not really interested in those ones with the big padded ends...

Michael I wouldn't even go there.

I've just always used hickory because they feel right, but none of them last long enough to bother making a fancy job out of.

Some people like to make shrines devoted to them but really as long as they match up as a pair and are not visibly bent they'll do for me.

Simple, strong and certainly nothing precious is my preference.

Spacey, You might want to check out some of the promo materials floating around about Vic Firth.

They sort their finished sticks by resonant tone and have many QC steps that make their stuff good... and then they sell the sticks dirt cheap.

    Check it out.

You may find there is some market for hi end sticks made out of special woods. Personally I use bread and butter sticks and they last forever because I play a light style but I'll bet some drummers would love to experiment with cool woods.

    Good luck,

    best regards,
    mike

Mike! "Market"...you really said "market"...I thought you knew where I was going better than that.
Ask anybody I've made a guitar for if they think I'm in the market or even thinking "market". Ok...after what I said
to Bapu about his ******* Varisick I'll let ya slide. :)
Really I was looking for an excuse to get a lathe.
