I will always love Sonar
I will be a Sonar user for ever. It is where I first learned how to programme music even though I used Cubasis which was free bundled with my Midi Keyboard. So Sonar was my real first DAW that I cut my teeth on. I stuck with it through the thick and thin.
Through Sonar Home Studio 4 to Sonar home studio 6 to X1 X2 and SPLAT. It has been a nice ride. I have enjoyed every bit. If Gibson never took such a radical action to deplete Sonar I would have never moved on to the DAW I currently own. Which I got for less than half price. It's almost like a minor miracle!! I have to shake my head sometimes and think from Sonar SPLAT to Studio One 3. I never in my wildest dreams thought I would see this day. I have to rub my eyes and look at the screen. Look at all those plug ins from Rapture to Dim Pro to all the other host of softs synths that come with it. I just hope that my authorisation doesn't up and vanish and I'm left with a DAW that partially works.
I will continue to use this DAW and make the most of it. We have to take advantage of what we have and utilise it in everyway. This is what I intend to do, there should be no reason for looking back only good times. Sonar was and is still a great programme, the first to do 64bit now the rest have come on leaps and bounds so we don't lose anything. Only good quality and sustainability...I dread for when the server goes down but at least I have a back up system that runs like a Ferrari F1 Sports car. A computer that sits snuggly and quietly which fits exquisitely with my DAW of choice. For the first time I have no reservations about what I have in front of me.
I would love for Sonar to come back and even those bakers to be employed in Jobs where they get complete satisfaction because they all deserve it and the next DAW they work on will be greater, better, stronger, sturdier, unique, hip, modern and spectacular with new code that they can work on without so many glitches. They have been great at keeping Sonar afloat with limited funds for advertising. Time and energy put into videos that the Cake community wanted. They kept a tight ship in these forums and we kept a handle on Sonar even to the point where we grew up with it. Sonar became ours and we became Sonars like a family in the Cakewalk Community we stuck together and didn't let anything new come between us. Hence why we had such a strong product in our own eyes. Hopefully Cakewalk, once back on their feet, will try and expand the family and also listen to outside influences and not just the Village. Our economy will grow and flourish next time. Long live Cakewalk hasta La Vista and may you come back stronger and better.
The development team you created a miracle by always setting a bench mark with Sonar what a job you did on Sonar legacy code and to work with that and still make the product what it is today is short of phenomenal. I am blown away. Credit where it is due SPLAT was the best version of Sonar and transformed it into something better.
So I have Studio One 3 now...words just cannot explain. I think I'm going to cry it was less than half price. Presonus, I just want to thank you guys for stepping in and feeling the pain that we over in the Cakewalk forums are feeling and experiencing.
This is not just any old cross over this is a bridge that no other company could have built you rescued us out of the clutches of Gibson and helped us to realise my future. Whether I used cakewalk for another year or six months or to when the server goes down I can truly say this has been a foundational, an outstanding move by you guys to take our money at half price and to have such a well rounded complete DAW I don't think I could have asked for more.
Ableton is great, Pro Logic is awesome but Studio One 3. This community has been wonderful so many great guys have been on here. I can't remember any names apart from Jamesg and his Marching Band wow and couple others have been great. There was a bald headed guy (CONRAD I think) with a great studio he left a while ago he was a fantastic guy if anyone can remember his name. Beagle you have been around for ages and ages your songs must be out of this world now. Some other great guys whose music in the Song forums I will never forget the technical knowledge then you go to the forums and here their songs it's just amazing.
That made me realise the best thing to do is go and do what you love best and that is to make music and get immersed in it till you see the levels rise SPLAT enable me to do that. I remember demoing Studio One in 2012 I just knew I had to get it but back then I didn't have the funds. Now I am right on track. SPLAT you really are a great product and I will as long as I have this computer and hope it doesn't break down will always have a copy of it here.
