I wish Session Drummer 3 was back.

I do wish that BandLab kept Session Drummer 3.  I don't like the old version that they kept so can anyone suggest a good replacement that is not to expensive. I do still have SONAR Pro but I was having audio issues with both installed on my new computer, so I decided to go with Cakewalk.  I'm liking Cakewalk a bit better than SONAR Pro.

Thanks for any ideas or suggestions.

I guess it depends what you consider expensive.  There's ones like Superior Drummer and EZDrummer, but they're a little pricey to me.  But there's also Geist2 I've tried the trial for, however I would wait til it goes on sale at PluginBoutique, usually goes on sale for 50%

What audio issues were you having with Sonar Professional and Cakewalk by Bandlab installed?  You can use Session Drummer 3 in Cakewalk by Bandlab.

Addictive Drums is ok, but the one thing I find that makes it unusable for me personally is you can't load your own drum samples in it

It doesn't take anymore time than it would sorting through preloaded samples, in fact I find it quicker, drag and drop a sample from the browser onto the drum pad you want it to replace, just that easy

What audio issues were you having with Sonar Professional and Cakewalk by Bandlab installed?  You can use Session Drummer 3 in Cakewalk by Bandlab.

I had just installed SONAR Pro and Cakewalk on my new computer and I was having serious audio latency issues, clicks, pops and drop outs.  I went through all of the typical settings and adjustments, so I uninstalled both programs and reinstalled just Cakewalk and for now it seams to working fine.

This also baffles me? I have Session drummer 3 when I open CbB?
Are you saying CbB comes with Session drummer 2 ??

And if you had Sonar Professional you would have AD2 with just 1 Add Pak.
I first bought Pro and later upgraded to Plat, so I ended up with 3 Add paks :)

I do agree that SD 3 rules as a sample player but that's all I'll use it for. It sounds kind of flat compared to AD2 or Air Strike2.
I can hear the difference every time I open an older project that still has SD3.

I have my own snare, brush and weird percussion samples I use SD3 to play, but the rest of my kit is always AD2. It's ability to process from within the GUI is why I get my best drums sounds there.

One needs to find a drum sound that works best for your style of music and then move on and make music. It gets tedious moving different kits in and out of the studio!   It took me 15 years but I now have it pretty close to what I want to hear.
Only thing I dislike is I can only run AD2 on 2 Computers. I wished it used a dongle.

Good catch there Johnny!  The OP can just sign in to his XLN account and download AD2 directly to his new computer using the XLN Online installer.  No Sonar required!  All Cakewalk ever gave us was a registration code for the standalone AD2, so if it was ever registered with XLN, good to go.  Else lookup the code on the Cakewalk account, and then register with XLN. https://www.cakewalk.com/My-Account

I use Plogue sforzando and just assemble my own kits over a normal keyboard.

SessionDrummer had some horrible bugs due to incomplete support for the sfz standard.
If you get into sfz commands with it, it could hang your PC requiring a reboot.

Possibly a misunderstanding? SD 1 was just called Session Drummer. SD 2 was called Session Drummer 2 and SD 3 was also called Session Drummer. A cause for confusion.

Unless they slipped something in on me while I wasn't paying attention, this was only 32bit when I bought it (many years ago). The developer said it was a big hassle to go 64bit because it was based on some framework that was 32bit only.

I did use the metal kit on one song. It worked out well (but that was when I was 32bit XP). Never tried the Rock kit as I now own nearly every drum product known to man.

'Well, regardless you own an active license to AD2, for whatever it's worth to you.  And if you run the Sonar Pro installer, you should be able to select just the Session Drummer 3 plugin from the installer dialogue.

With Addictive Drums you need to pre view and choose a Kit ( add pack) that you like. There is nothing there until you do this. Which kit did you choose?  I use pieces from the 4 I grabbed, Fairfax, Studio Rock ,Modern Jazz and Session Percussion.  I just realized I got 4 add packs, not 3. One with Pro and 3 with Splat I guess. You also get some individual kit parts tossed in. I grabbed some cowbells :)

SI drum kit is part of Cakewalk's Studio Instrument collection. It's better than the TTS-1 drums and with a little tweaking can get you by, but is miles below AD2.

PS, Downloaded and installed the FREE MT Drum kit. Has one very impressive sound that is at least better then the SI drums.
I like the GUI and having compression is a nice touch for a free kit. I think it will replace Session Drummer as a sample kit player just for those 2 improvements alone. I will send the people a tip to rid myself of the nag screen that's a real good way to offer freeware. .
Thanks for the heads up, always like my freebies. I'll put it right there with the Ample Bass.

I think AD2 may be all you need for traditional recording studio drums.  But if you are into sampling ant triggering live with an MPC style setup, it may not be your thing.  But it is a virtual drum recording studio for the classic drum kit.  I can get lost in the drum kit sounds and patterns for hours, :)

DAW: CbB; Sonar Platinum, and others ...
