I would be happy...

... if somebody would spare a minute to hear and tell me - what is missing in my two demos (musically and technically)?
Actually, I do not write songs any time I may not do it, but these two seem to be an exception. :)

What would be a proper way to release a single or EP (on more song is coming) and to try to promote it?

Thanks,
Vlad

What are you looking for in a response?  Why someone would or wouldn't *buy* those?  First and foremost put yourself in the shoes of the person listening to it.  Most of the time it's some overworked executive or slave going through a gazillion songs a day.  What is special about your songs  that would make him or her say...yes?  Well over 50% (that's a half-gazillion) are most likely pretty decent songs.  The business is about relationships like any other business.

I didn't ask about buying or selling... Well, what is the reason for this part of the forum called SONGS to exist??
Actually, I was looking (as probably the other authors of this thread) for some feedback, and if you do not have time to listen, what feedback could you provide?

    Vlad,

Had a listen to "The Lie"  I thought it was all pretty good except the first 1:09 minutes of it.   The intro bass riff is too long and seems not to be connected at all to the rest of the song.    That said, the rest of the song was pretty good, very much enjoyed the overall style, transitions, chord changes, vocal harmonies, etc..  Really good pop'ish song that I think people would generally like.

I would consider cutting the entire first section up to 1:09 because you would lose listeners thinking the intro was too long and it really sounds like a completely different genre than when the main part kicks off after 1:09   Hope this is useful.   Will have listen to the other one later.

    Regards

markno999, thanks A LOT for a very helpful feedback. Actually, the bass intro is an important part of the song if it is oriented upon the progressive rock listeners (Tool, Dream Theater, etc.). It could also provide the bassist a chance to show his skills...
Indeed, I had the same complains and already created a compromised shorted version
    https://soundcloud.com/user-2937695/the-lie-short-version
Do you still think, it would be better to omit the Intro? As for me - it is still something missing, but it is definitely better than without the intro at all.

I do not know about "pop'ish", but one of my friends told me, that The Lie would sound good at the end of some relevant "blockbuster". I personally find it quite reasonable to attempt, but have no idea - how could I get to the filmmakers? Is it possible at all for the newcomer?

Vlad, for what it's worth, I like the intro but I also think it's too long. Take that for what it's worth; you're the artist and you're the one who has to be happy with the song. I like the song, it's very catchy and the performances are all great.

I did have problems understanding the vocals, it's like they're clear but not, if that makes any sense to you. Perhaps too much reverb or maybe some fighting for the same frequencies is going on. It's a pretty busy track with a lot of stuff going on so it seems to me that your biggest challenge is getting some clarity across all the instruments and vocal parts.

    Really nice song.

I think eph221 is referring to the part about relationships when he says he's already answered your question. Just about anybody on the planet would know more than I do about how to sell a song to filmmakers or anybody else for that matter.

    Good luck!

    Hi, Kevin!
Thank you for your opinion and encouragement. Have you heard the version of The Lie with the shorted bass Intro?
Is it still too long for you?
    https://soundcloud.com/user-2937695/the-lie-short-version
Concerning the clarity, yes, I understand, but it is a demo version and I hoped that I will achieve full clarity in the release version with the professional sound engineer and designer.
P.S. I have heard your songs on Reverbnation. I liked Little Cloud most of all, a fine blues song, but I think may be the Hammond keyboards are missing...

I'll give the short one a listen. Are you engaging engineers to do the final mix and master? Thanks for giving my songs a listen, Vlad, it's nice of you to comment on them in your thread. I had a piano in there but even that was too much for me so I can't really imagine what a Hammond would sound like! Feel free to do a part that you thinks works and I'll give it a whirl.

There is Native Instruments Hammond B3 synth (I think it could be found in the internet for free). It is small about 60 mb, if I am not mistaken. Alternatively, and Hammond option in other synths could be used. If you do not have ideas about the solo, I would just put the chords in a backup, and then experiment with the timbre you like...

    Vlad,

Regarding "The Lie", still think the intro is too long.   I would personally have it only 2 bars and then into the song.   Your average listener has a very short attention span, if you are appealing only to musicians who would enjoy it, leave it as is, if you wish to appeal to mass listeners, I would trim it.      Your song and only my opinion, you will have to see what others think.   Regarding film makers, unless you have connections in your network it would be very difficult to break in.   Most have their preferred composers established by the time they hit the blockbuster level.   Maybe start with some short film or indie producers to get your own network established.

Had a listen to "It Was a Time".   A good song.  Like the song, mix and performance.   Really good.

    Regards

    Hi, Mark
I will probably make 2 version - with and without the intro. Thank you for a positive feedback upon It Was A Time, I really need the encouragement now.

I have heard your music. I like your singing - it is clear and convincing, despite of the fact you make covers. Do you have live performances and the band? If yes, how do you arrange your gigs?
If you want, you can answer me in a PM.

    Vlad,

Appreciate the listen.  I don't actually sing, those covers are all done with various singers from the songs forum.   I do the backing tracks only, playing guitar, bass, some keyboards and MIDI programming sometimes by myself and sometimes collaborating with the singer.   Started doing covers to work on my mixing and engineering skills and do this only as a hobby.   No live playing, band, or anything like that.   Pretty busy with work most of the time.   This is really a relaxing hobby for me.   Thanks for asking.

    Hallo, Mark
Sorry for mistake, I didn't know such projects exist. Anyway, good work, sound better than some studio works I heard.
I plan to open a couple of other topics here and would like to hear your opinion as an expert.
