I'm trying to have fun with it Alex. It's a steep learning curve. Everything is in the wrong place. Where's the darn 'DEL' key? I like the mouse... craigb (ITYRN), are you trying to say I get around?

Welcome to the Mac side of the force. I think you'll enjoy it. ;) You should be able to run w7 directly on it via BootCamp, no? To be honest, the Bootcamp option was an extra incentive when I switched to Mac. After a bit of time, the last thing I wanted was to even just see Windows running on my machine. OSX won me over in no time.

Hi Rain, I've heard of boot camp. So what's the difference between that and parallels? I got the impression that parallel will grab everything off a pc, including your programs, and allow you to use it on your mac. It even makes win programs look like mac ones. Or is that boot camp?

I'm not familiar w/ Parallels - I was under the impression that it was a sub-environment running under OSX and allowing you to run Windows in that sandbox so to speak. So you're effectively running both OS at once. Bootcamp is more like dual boot - Windows runs directly on the Mac hardware, just like a PC. I just found this link which explains the differences a bit: http://www.wikihow.com/Ch...Bootcamp-and-Parallels

ok, so bootcamp is simply dual booting and parallels is virtual machines. Got it. Now where is the delete key?

I'm using a laptop and I'm not familiar w/ the regular size keyboard. Googling it, it seems that you're not the only one looking for it though... I think what you are looking for requires you to combine backspace + the fn key.

Glad I could help. The install disk on your desktop is like a shortcut to the mounted disk image. You can ctrl-click and "eject" it, and you should be able to delete the actual file that you've downloaded afterwards (which by default should be in your downloads folder, in the doc. The actual file that you want to delete is probably a .dmg file or maybe .pkg file.

Congrats Karyn! Right-clicking on the mounted disc image icons will also give you an "Eject" option. The reason it behaves this way is that it simulates the mounting of a storage device a-la UNIX/Linux. The eject is to unmount the device. I used to use Paralels, and I may install it again. It worked great for me, but I never ran SONAR that way. I'm happy to help you with any Mac questions.

Thanks Thomas, Here's my first question... I downloaded a game I've been playing on my PC, it comes in a .zip file which extracts to a complete folder that is ready to run. On the PC you just save the folder in your favourite place to save stuff and right click/drag the .exe to the desktop to create a link. So far on the mac, I found the folder in the download stack. It appears to have self extracted already. I dragged it to the desktop from where I can open it and run the game, but I'm left with a blue folder on the desktop that I want to move and replace with a program link/icon... I'm very new to macs and can't even find the disk to see what's on it. I feel stupid

Hi Karyn- You can drag the "executable" into the dock and it will create a visual and clickable link/icon to your game. My personal preferred way for launching things is to use the spotlight. If you use the shortcut COMMAND + SPACEBAR, it opens the spotlight. Just begin typing the name of the game, and it will find it very quickly. When you see it highlighted in the list, just hit ENTER, and it will launch. I personally prefer this, because it's really quick. Mac's indexing is really good, and you will see that you are able to launch things very quickly this way. I haven't tried to create executable shortcuts anywhere but in the dock, but I'll check it out for you.

Hi Karyn (again)- I just noticed that the "Launchpad" is the visual place to have all your application icons. Mine all seem to appear in there without having had to create them.
