I'm currently listening to Cross Purposes

I prefer Eternal Idol and Headless Cross, but, overall, I dig the Martin-era Sabbath.

As a matter of fact, I don't think there's an incarnation of Black Sabbath I don't like. All for different reasons.

If I remember right, wasn't Ray Gillan the original vocalist on Eternal Idol? I'm not sure what happened there, but Tony ended up redoing it. Good album though. I enjoyed Headless Cross a lot, too, but didn't really care for Cross Purposes or TYR.

Yes he was - the Deluxe Edition of Eternal Idol has Gillen's vocals on the bonus disc. It's on my wish list. :)

Management-wise, this was a tough time for Sabbath and I seem to recall from Iommi's biography that there were misunderstandings and the band just fell apart.

It would be cool to hear that. I liked Ray's voice. I thought the first Badlands album was excellent. Of course Jake, Eric, and Greg had a little to do with it too.
