I'm man enough - X3(b)

Ive been using Cakewalk products since PA9.. When Sonar X series came out.. I was very critical..and in my mind..justifiably so.. It was a shock to the system and very unstable. I was highly disappointed as I felt they had taken a very robust and strong DAW and weakened it.. But I always wanted to see and said so on this forum that I wished the bakers all the best and hoped it would get better...

I still have some small criticisms - Still not crazy about only being able to view two sends at a time in the CV..seems like a waste of screen real estate to me and the Waves shell is problematic (i get lots of License not found errors and I cant seem to rescan inside the program).. along with UAD issues. I also cant use automap for some reason.

I believe all of those issues will be fixed in time as I think some if not most of that is on others to correct.

But man...I got to give it up -THIS THING IS BEAST MODE!!!.. I love, love, love the stability - You guys have really put your nose to the grindstone with this one. I can tell and feel the amount of work that went in under the hood of this version. The color customization is great for an old guy like me .. The automation and take lanes are much, much better. The program is snappy.. vst scanning is a breeze (sans Waveshell and automap) and I am learning to really, really like screensets..although.. a global option would be cool :)

I loaded a cut this morning with 62 tracks, 14 busses, 8 External inserts, gobs of plugs and laid in tons of automation,, I have loaded this same cut in three different programs and they all "coughed up a lung"... X3(b) "looked at me like" .. that all you got??..

X3 didn't even breath hard!!

You guys deserve big kudos for this one.. started rough with "X".. but you bakers are cookin the good stuff again from what I can tell so far....

Well done guys, Well done!

Is it really true that at one time you could only see 2 busses at a time?   I have owned every version since pa8 and I do not recall this.

Yup.  You have to scroll the sends block to see the hidden sends.  Bums me out, too.

I think you may have thought that the output channels were it, but underneath there were unlimited busses if you put your mouse over the edge of the output channel strip.  Anybody know what I'm talking about?  It was an annoying default setup because they were hidden, but it wasn't a big deal.

    BlixYz,

I think we might be talking about different things - Dave and I (how's things Mod..by the way?) are talking about the number of sends visibile in the CV. Previous versions afforded at least 4 sends as a default - now it is only two and if you use alot of effects channels ( EFX busses in Sonar) and you like to work in the CV..you have to scroll thru - the arrows are small and for me (and apparently Dave as well) it's kind of a whip. Especially with all of the unused screen real estate available at the top of the strip in the CV.

X3 is solid so far! I also had an issue with Waves license not found errors, but that went away on its own. I wish I could have found out the actual cause, though.

Yep, X3 is chugging right along. I'm thrilled to get another session. I like when I can work and actually enjoy it!

EDIT: I haven't had much time to sit and try to break X3 yet but from what I have done over the course of the past week hasn't produced any real issues.

    Hey DK,

Most things "carry forward" into new versions, but I agree you do not always get "what you want or expect." I have been very tolerant of many things, because I often will look at the "big picture"... granted I do not stress SONAR as much as some other users, but sure I do find "issues."

I am happy that X3 has impressed you! At least your post wasn't "Mettelus, you are full of crap "

I personally stopped at 7 Pro, and got a card (in snail mail) to upgrade to X1... so I have experienced all the X versions, but cannot (sadly) speak to the 8.5 users, which makes me wonder what 8.5 had that kept users in it.

Ironically... and I will say this again... I have always supported Cakewalk (someone actually commented about me saying this)... not because they are "perfect," per se, but because they do listen, improve, and do better... this forum is the BEST group of folks I have ever interacted with (in my life), and many are "complete strangers." I actually felt bad with my criticisms of other versions to SONAR (that I made) and sent Cakewalk an email which ended "Please remember... for all of the things you have received criticism for, please remember all of the things that you DO RIGHT!" The impressive things (to me) have always outweighed the "what the h*ll's?" by FAR.

@Brian... LOL... I must admit... due to my personal experience with X2, I have been "trying" to break X3 as well! Not happened yet, but the folks who can title a message "X3b crashed again" are getting a "badge of honor." As for me, I have none yet :( but, and thrilled that I do not as well.

Yea, i still cannot believe you can still see only 2 sends at a time in the CV. There has been much dislike them going from 4 to 2 and i would of thought they would have addressed it. But sadly, they have not. how much code does it take to make you 2 more sends? You have plenty of room in the Console view. It seems like the people who make this program, do not mix or have no experience mixing music. They must be just computer programmers in my opinion.

    Hi,
I'm getting ready to install Sonar X3 right now, but I've also just downloaded the update B, so do I install that instead, or do I have to install the regular X3 files first?
    Thanks.

    J,
download all the files to one location and the run the .rar file marked #1 - That will install all the bins - after and only after run the "b" update
