I've been wanting those for so long...

Which is actually quote ridiculous, if you consider that they're inexpensive. But there was always something else on which I could put that money... Finally, after getting the lighting issue solved, I needed to make some room on the desk. So we made a quick visit to GC and I grabbed a pair of these:

Allowed me to clean up the desk and remove all the clutter. I seem to notice a difference in the way things sound too, but then again, this happens every time I move anything around.

Previously, I had my monitors sitting on another pair of (unused) monitors, which themselves were onto concrete blocks, themselves resting on little nightstands. All that stuff has been pushed back in corners, which I guess also affects how the room sounds - maybe even more than the stands themselves.

But anyway, I'm quite happy with them and how things sound. And I now have room to breathe.

A well spent $99 if you ask me. Of course there are different models, some less expensive, but I really wanted those wooden ones.

There's another model that's relatively often on sale for $50 either at Musician's Friend or Guitar Center, I can't remember.

Nice
I love the set up

I went to the unfinished wood store and bought some "Plant Stands" and put them together and stained them and bought some "MoPads" or what ever they are called and did the very same thing you have done.....

but I like your set up ... Very clean

I've considered all kinds of options. Every time we dropped by Home Depot and the likes, I'd try and figure out what would work - Greek columns and whatnot. But it would have cost me as much as these.

It's funny how every few months I seem to have to go through the same process of removing gear from my workspace, as it seems to gather around closer piece by piece the minute I start recording. But when I need to focus on writing, I really need a clean and simple workspace.

I need to buy a second one, identical. Asymmetry irks me, I just can't seem to find room for one lava lamp.

Those stands look nice. GC would be one of the last places I would think of if looking for stands like that. Good to know.

Studio is looking really nice, Rain.

Same here. I, too, have long wanted some proper (heavy, metal, sand-filled) speaker stands. I have a pair of crude home-made wooden stands. Ugly as they are, they do the job just fine so it's hard to justify the expense of replacing them.

Now, though, you may have provided me with two answers: where to put the lava lamps and justification for buying new speaker stands. If I buy new stands, I can use the old ones to support a pair of lava lamps.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Thanks.

Sweetwater is usually my first stop for any and everything, or AMS because they have a warehouse here in Nevada.

But since I'm not the most patient fellow in the world, I've become quite familiar with Guitar Center's inventory and their web site. They have a store a few minutes from here and their web site allows you to verify whether or not they have the item you want by location.

Then I'll tell you this much - there should be a new guitar in your collection pretty soon. ;)

That little visit to GC allowed me to test a certain Gibson guitar I had my eyes on and, after a few days to think about my options, I'm finally ready to make it happen, as soon as we've settled a few details. I can't tell you how excited I am. :)
