Looks like Sweetwater pulled the Sonar X3 ads within the last hour or so. Maybe many baking is still going in.

A fellow forum member stated he got the Sweetwater catalog by mail yesterday (9/23) and it had a spread on X3

If I was king of Cakewalk, I'd pull the plug on X3 and just go with "Tascam Professional Recording Software" on the package and in the program. I mean really what is Tascam going to add in the near future ?? Otherwise it could be a year or two wait for the new name. If they are going to change the name, the sooner the better in my opinion.

    djwayne ...pretty interesting comment...

the ad has been pulled from musician's friend, sweetwater ...IMHO... the advance marketing was premature...
I did read the sweetwater info ...sounds interesting... if all is correct
speculation abounds ...for us long timers, I reckon it's become an annual event of hoping desired changes will be forthcoming...

Well I'd feel much better about buying an upgrade to the new improved "Tascam Professional Recording Software" than a soon to be defunct X3 upgrade. They may have to order new boxes and a simple re-write of the dvd's, but it'd be worth it, to roll out the new name now, rather than wait 1-2 years for the next upgrade. Even if it took a month or two, it'd be worth it. They've already decided to change the name, so why wait ??

buy a product, wait a year for bug fixes that don't come, buy the next product, leaving another partially broken product abandoned... sonar 8.53, sonar x1, sonar x2...

Well, only yesterday they said the deal is NOT complete yet even though the letter of intent was issued.

hi all new to all this. Just wanted to find out if using sonarx2 without a midi keyboard I can get sound by choosing softsynths and TTS1. Is there a way to get this to default save adding it to each track that is added or loaded

So what's holding up the deal ?? Gibson has the bucks, Cakewalk needs the change, Roland probably wants the money...I'd get the lawyers and bankers together and make it happen right away. A letter of intent is pretty serious stuff, especially now that it has been announced. I'll bet that the deal could all close within 30 days if everybody wants it to, and Tascam Professional Recording Software could be available just in time for the Christmas shopping season.

You can use any soft synth without a midi keyboard by clicking notes into the piano roll view. My first experience with a cakewalk product was when I was making a backing track for a Russian sketch comedy competition in 2004 using nothing but the mouse and the Piano Roll View. We still won. :)

Re the Gibson acquisition - wasn't it a letter of intent vs announcement of ownership transfer?
Not saying that it's not going to happen, just that it hasn't yet.
And as such a number of things may be in a holding pattern- including the release of X3.

I've read through most of these posts and while Cakewalk reps have said a number of things, I don't think I've seen them yet mention or actually confirm release dates; but maybe I missed it. The closet I recall seeing are comments that further announcements and more info (videos, press releases, etc.) will be forth coming.

    +1..

cakewalk is still owned by Roland, ran by Cakewalk and will continue to be so until the contracts have been signed and the financial transaction has occurred. A LOI is simply a non-binding piece of paper stating that two parties have agreed to try to work out a deal. This is likely a 90 days event.

..meanwhile, count me OUT of the list of people who think that putting "Tascam" on the box will present a better image... I personally hold the cakewalk name in higher regard, but as long as Noel sticks around and the core group of engineers then its matters not whats on the box, but what was baked into it..

count me OUT of the list of people who think that putting "Tascam" on the box will present a better image...

Absolutely agree.  I don't think that is the intent.  Whenever you have a conglomerate like Gibson, you need to have some kind of coherent structure.  You can't have one guy calling all the shots on a day to day basis.  You look for synergies and try to get the most compatible businesses into the same group.  When you look at all the Gibson businesses, the only one that even remotely resembles Cakewalk is the Teac/Tascam thing.  I think the idea of the "Tascam professional" thing is to develop what naming experts (yes, that is a specialty) refer to as an "empty vessel."  In this case, the vessel isn't completely empty, but it is sufficiently empty that they can build it over time.

Clearly SONAR is a highly recognizable brand in the DAW space and I don't expect anybody at Gibson is foolish enough to do away with that brand.  The Cakewalk name, OTOH, isn't so widely recognized, so that one may gradually disappear.  I interpret the idea of "Tascam Professional Software" to evolve as a general umbrella, and it does suggest that the marketing positioning is more at the high end of the market, realizing that there is little money to be made in the Reaperverse.

Expect  "Tascam Professional Software" to appear in small font on product boxes.  But one should also expect that SONAR will be found within a bigger website that includes all the Tascam products.  That evolution could take 12-24 months.

If boxes are truly shipping out on October 3rd, I would n't expect anything other than Cakewalk on the box.  It takes time to print boxes and distribute them to vendors.  If Roland's name is not on the box, then we probably have a clue that something has been up for a while; why else would they have left their name off the packaging.

Yes, of course.  I was talking more like a year from now.  These branding transitions take time.  And Gibson doesn't even own the thing yet.
