IK Miroslav Install Question

Before I screw this up.....

When I installed the software it created an INSTRUMENT folder on my C drive:

C:\PF (x86)\Ik Multimedia\Miroslav Philharmonic\Instruments

That's where the sound library apparently goes.

I'm d/ling the library now but naturally I don't want it on my C drive. I want it to go on another drive.

Inside the INSTRUMENTS folder on the C drive created by the software install is a .dat file.

If I direct the library to install on my F drive and point Miroslav to that F drive folder what happens to that .dat file? Does it exist to tell the software that's where the library is?

Not sure so I thought I'd ask.

If I were King of the World I'd have all these software companies use one type of install that asks a few simple questions and install w/o wondering what's gonna happen.

After this install I have a Waves install. I see there's a thread on that already.

Good grief.

I had a little confusion with install at first too.

You need to unzip and install the main program first--you can select a different hard drive to install to.  You might want to start over and reinstall to your F drive.  I had THOUGHT that installing the main program would automatically unzip and install the libraries, but it doesn't.

You then need to unzip and install each separate library--they end up going to the right place ON YOUR F DRIVE with your main program.  Otherwise, I think you might be stuck with them going to the C drive if that's where your main program is.  Maybe there's a workaround, but I'd sure try reinstalling and selecting F instead of C for the main program to be sure.

    Good luck!

Thanks, Jerry. I had the same impression that everything would unzip and be done but I knew that wasn't the case since the description of the software says the library is 7GB.

Reading the USER MANUAL it says,

"Knowing how Miroslav Philharmonik keeps track of its instruments, you can now move, duplicate and regroup them (and their folders) at will, using any file manager in your system. Please note that all the .STH, .STI and .STW files must be moved together or the instrument will not work correctly."

Too bad this isn't in the INSTALLATION manual.

I guess I can just move the entire instruments folder from the C drive to wherever I want. At least I THINK it says that.

The instruments can be wherever you want as long as it is set up to point at the right folder ( open GUI click on prefs and select relevant drive/folder)

    Thanks, paulo.

What confused me was the INSTRUMENTS folder and .dat file created by the program install.

Once I get these libraries d/l'd and installed I'll find out.

Seems like a great many sample libraries are unnecessarily obtuse in their installation. I've had head-scratching moments with several Kontakt libraries, and recall that I had to move the SampleTank and Miroslav libraries afterward. Fortunately, it's easy to do. Just drop them wherever they want to go and then move them if necessary. I have SampleTank, SonikSynth, SampleTron, SampleMoog and Miroslav all under one directory tree and use the SampleTank UI for all of them.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

I didn't have as much luck w/ the recent transfer of my ST libraries. I had to re-authorize every ST plug-in. And IK's authorization manager isn't my friend.

    +1

It is quite a cumbersome piece of work....it took me forever to realize that I didn't have to add
serial numbers one at a time and restart....never paid attention to the "ADD SERIAL #" button,
    like a ditz...

Still, if you copy them "ANYWHERE" even back to the same location...you have to re-authorize...

They should go "CLOUD BASED" like Waves, so that licenses can be moved if needed.

The XLN Audio "Online Installer" is REALLY bad...you don't even get to pick where to install...

they just go where ever the installer puts them (C: drive)  and I don't like my instruments on my C Drive...

But they don't give you choice...very sad....and, if you do a reinstall...you have to download everything AGAIN...
    on a DSL connection...that's a MAJOR undertaking...DUMB....

I also just recently tried to purchase an ADPak at half off during the "HALF OFF" sale on the XLN Site..

it wouldn't even let me add an ADPak to the Cart.....I could add ANYTHING else..but NOT an ADPAK..

    SCAM....

They're about to get dumped...which is sad because I love AD and AK....but not their license and support structure..
or the fact the they completely abandoned support for Addictive Drums while working on Addictive Keys (over a year).
That reminds of me IK's lack of support for the ST line because they are too busy working on iCrap...

At least Toontrack keeps up with ALL their products REGARDLESS of what they are working on....

I know what you mean - and I missed that button too!

Some older products were easily re-authorized using their own older authorization manager (can't remember which ones).

SampleTank itself though prompted me to re-authorize every time I re-listed the libraries. Then it went on telling me that I needed to update the authorization manager. Which is somewhat silly because the same authorization manager worked just fine merely a few hours before when I installed Miroslav.

Anyway, updating it didn't do anything but put me back in the same loop of re-list, re-authorize. The fix was to re-install ST altogether.

NI's Service Center gave me the same type of issues in the past - you'd get in a loop of update checks. Check for updates, restart, check for updates, restart...

Waves has been pretty flawless here, too.

I had the same issues with NI.....it would just keep re-listing the update...even though the update was already
    installed...

I'm at least happy that NI gives you the option to store the update....so you can re-update without doing a complete reinstall..

    That's a great thing...and you don't have to re-authorize every time...

Thanks for all the comments. I thought I was alone. The IK installers are a mess as are the manuals. (Sorry, IK Obi)

When I opened Part 2 of the Instrument installer it wanted to extract the files again even though I already extracted them. I just copied the extracted files to the Instruments folder. The other installers in the other "parts" worked just fine. Very, very frustrating.

Also, every time I changed the Preferences folder to my "new" library my EX-25 stopped working.  I had to re-boot.

I THINK I've got this installed. Will I suffer the same pain when IK goes 64 bit?

Now to try my Waves install.

OK I am in the middle of installing Total Studio 3 bundle, too. I can open the various "engines" stand alone, though they are not found in Sonar's plug in manager. I cannot open the CSR stand alone nor find it with Sonar. I have yet to install the libraries, but might try that today.

As to the engines....Hopefully you put them in individual folders. In my example (above) I added this to my X2 64 bit scan:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\Vstplugins\Miroslav

    I re-scanned and was done.

The same is probably true of CSR but I'm not sure.

    Good luck!

I've found it's easier to get those 32 bit engines into 64 SONAR by making sure you put each one in it's own folder or else you have to re-scan the entire 32 bit vst folder to see them plus you get all the other 32 bit stuff.

Someone else may have a better method.

I, too, bought the TS3 bundle....it was a steal...had to....but opened the box to find they
had put the wrong Serial Number in the Box.  They gave me the Serial Number for the Total Workstation Bundle.
Called Sweetwater (just down the street from me) and they had it resolved in less then 12 hrs.

Check to see if you have an IKMultimedia folder under C:\Program Files (x86)

That is where your products will reside by default...

I never install to the default...I don't keep my instruments and samples on the C Drive...only the VST's

The Installer will ask you where you want to install them...and you can decide...

Once that's done....Start Sonar and then go to the Plugin Manager and add the appropriate path(s) to
the scan list and rescan..they should show up.

    Cheers!

EDIT...OR just install the vst's to the Cakewalk\Vstplugins directory and they'll scan auto-magically!

Well, well, well...I had one more issue. I had no sound in X2. Wonderful. Seems somehow the Recording Playback Timing setting were blank. Great. Thankfully I was able to open X1 and compare settings.

Seems when I run Miroslav as a standalone it works fine. When I close it I get a no sound card message. Then, of course, no sound from anything. Settings look fine.

This is not uncommon...some software fail to release the Asio driver back to the system.  Consequently,
the next program will not be able to use it.

Do a Ctrl Alt Del and check the task manager to see if Miroslav is still listed after you close it.  If so, kill it.
If not, check to see if the Asio driver is still there...if so, kill it....and then run Sonar.

Some have even had to reboot due to this particular problem.

    Hope that helps...

I'm sorry its so confusing. It took me a bit at first as well, but after you move all of your IK libraries to 1 folder and direct SampleTank there it gets easier. If you are ever having issues our support is here to help.

Don't say that...I've been having a tooth problem for a few days...hoping it just goes away...

The Waves install isn't so bad....download WOLI....run it...pick the plugs you have licenses for and install.  Then go to the Waves site and register your plugs.  Once they are registered Waves sends your licenses to the Cloud.  You run the Waves License Manager and download them to your computer...seems like a lot...but it's actually very smooth if you follow the steps...

I highly recommend going to the Waves site and reading the info there beforehand if you have any doubts.

I really like the Waves License Manager.  If you plan on re-installing or putting in a new hard drive, all you do is send
your licenses to the Cloud.  Then when your done, reinstall the plugs and re-download your licenses.

You can also use a USB drive to store your licenses as well.  I'm ok with the Cloud.  Be forewarned, you are only allowed
ONE recover per year FREE.  That means if you accidentally delete your licenses from your hard drive, you only get ONE
time to recover them.  So ALWAYS send them to the Cloud if you're doing anything that may impact your hard drive.

    Cheers!

Well, I am a lying SoS. I decided to install my Waves pack before I called it a night.

    Success!

I bought that Maserati pack. Seemed like a good deal at $79.

I can play with it when I get home from the dentist.

Maybe I can record my screams in his office and do a cover of "Cold Turkey" when I get home.

I'm telling ya, I dread the day when I get a new DAW and have to re-install all this crap.

    Have a charmimg evening!

    Thanks for the assistance.

I got the Maserati Bundle during the last sale - along with NPP, Gold, Tapes, Tubes, & Transistors, and NLS...

I went crazy...but they were giving the stuff away...had to do it.

    Glad I could help...anytime...

You'll love driving a "Maserati"  LOL

    I have ine small item.

When I ran Miroslav in standalone mode it worked fine. Once I exited and tried to load another VST or X2 I got a "soundcard not found" issue. I haven't had time to investgate.

You may want to read mcclarry's post #16 in this thread for possible reasons. It may just be my issue.

Yeah, I'm running it on 64-bit with X2.  No problems so far.

Only issue I have is with the Quad Capture Win 8 Driver...

ALL my IK products work fine within X2...

But the stand alones don't work...they don't see the Quad Asio Driver....

    Other then that...no problem!
