INSTALLATION SONAR LE 3 or 5..????

Should have realised NEVER to purchase a product that comes 'bundled' with software that has to be downloaded..!!! Just bought a BOSS BR800 multitrack & instead of it coming with an installation disk for the software (i dont even know which version of LE it is supposed to be..!!). Been trying now for 6 hrs to download the software.....not happening. Download didnt complete & have to start all over again....but have to go to work shortly. Because i havent actually downloaded it successfully....i dont have a serial number....which means i cant get technical support..! WOW..!!

Is it possible to get the software on a disk..?? I am at my wits end with downloading massive files....

In order for these companies to save a few dollars on including an actual installation disk, they force the user into having to download massive files....& in my case, it has been so goddamn frustrating. Never again will i buy something that has to be downloaded, it has to be a hard copy or forget it...

You would need a serial number to register the software.

You must have received a card or something giving the download link. There should be a serial number on that.

The software would just be Sonar LE.

Are you in a position to call them?

At the moment Cakewalk only provide downloads for their software. No current versions sold on disc. This is the way the software world is going.

No. There is no card...no serial number until i actually INSTALL the product. As i've said- i cannot even download the entire 1.8GB....so in other words - i have no serial number....

I provided a link to it in my first post. When you follow that link, there is a further link that says Download it today.

Just read the instructions on that page on how to download Cakewalk Command Centre. Unfortunately you will need to do a bit of reading.

On the installation instructions that came with the BOSS BR800, it clearly says that i have to actually download the software & THEN i will get the serial number to complete the process. How on EARTH am i supposed to get a serial number before i can download the software....unbelievable seriously....

Well I guess if you can't complete the download, there's not much point in attempting other downloads.

I don't know why you can't complete the download. Is there some error? Are you using a download manager?

In the past the serial number was provided on a card with the software. Please remember I haven't seen whatever instructions you were given.

I'll see if I can find out for you if It is possible to contact Cakewalk for pre-purchase enquiries without already having a serial number.

Not ridiculous!
On this page http://www.cakewalk.com/Contact/OrderSupport it says that if you don't have a serial number leave it blank.

I have sent a pm to a Cakewalk staffer that he might get in touch with you.

Firstly did you buy your Boss BR800 new?, if you did return to the place of purchase and seek some assistance form them.

Secondly contact Boss support they may be able to assist with the software.

Thirdly SONAR LE technically no longer exists, Cakewalk now only make Artist, Professional and Platinum.

If Roland did not supply the software on a disk, you could try BOSS support.

If you are having trouble downloading using Firefox consider using a more robust download manager such as Free Download Manager.

If you wish to contact Cakewalk by email try using this form http://www.cakewalk.com/Contact/OrderSupport

the server also has to support "restarting" broken downloads,  not just the download manager

it sounds like you hvae a product released when cakewalk were owned by roland (who own boss)

the hardware unit should work fine, irrespective of the daw you use with it

good luck!

I am not sure this is accurate. LE is still bundled with some hardware and the OP is downloading from somewhere.

AFAIK, the servers Cakewalk uses have always supported restart. In the past the links were good for 300 minutes. It has been a while since that was an issue for me but I do recall having to swap out the download link when my original one went stale. I am not sure this is possible with Firefox but FDM would let me change the download link and resume using my partial download file. This was extremely useful for very slow or unreliable connections.

The documentation that comes with the unit states that they no longer include a disk, instead they include a link to download the software. I'll wait to hear from the place i bought it from. As far as download managers go, i was advised that either Firefox or Chrome would be the best options..? I know very little about download managers. I'd been researching the BOSS BR800 with the SONAR LE for quite a while before buying it, including everything from installing right throught to importing drum patterns into the software for further editing (which now was a waste of time) & have no idea which other software can do what i need it to do. Very dissilusioned with the whole thing now....i just wanted something simple, uncluttered & user friendly.

Thanks for your help guys...

Re: INSTALLATION SONAR LE 3 or 5..???? 2015/11/03 10:17:24 (permalink)
Roland products used to ship with Sonar X1LE,,  On disk. It was easy to instal and easy to register. Once registered you get all the cool offers from Cakewalk.   I have it and it's only use was to use as a gateway to upgrade to a real version. I found it was a very bad version of Sonar compared to what I had. Even Guitar studio seemed better.
For one there's isn't any usable VST's or even TTS-1. Cakewalk without TTS-1 is a waste of time for me.

I guess once Roland used up all those Xi LE DVD's they cheaped out and now just provide a link. And who knows if it works , you might be the first to try it. I would see if there is a forum for the Boss equipment and see what those folks say about it.
Or you might just try going to a freinds house and use a different computer. ( work?)

Cakewalk should do away with LE and just provide a one month free trail of at least Artist. I think they loose potential customers with LE.

Thanks for the help, much appreciated. Been a hectic day with work & spending too much time trying to download stuff. I'll try to find a dlm that works for me (firefox doesn't)...after that, i'll look at some other software that'll suit my purposes. I did use a Cakewalk program at least 9 or 10 years ago (no idea which one)...& it was a dream to work with & at that time i only had a very underpowered PC...no problems. Wish i still had that software..! Thanks again...

Everyone gets frustrated bringing things online, so we all can commiserate and most of us have been there too. The up side is that this forum is immense help and I have yet to see anyone "abandoned" with a legitimate issue. Patience, Grasshopper.
