It allows VST and KONTAKT instrument developers to integrate their plug-ins with KOMPLETE KONTROL and MASCHINE at the same deep level as KOMPLETE Instruments. Therefore I don't see how it is applicable to Sonar.

This probably belongs in the cakewalk instruments forums where Cakewalk synth plugins reside or feature request forums. Not the hardware forum or Sonar forum.

Very cool development!  We've waited a long time for tight integration of soft-synths.
It's so convenient to be able to browse thru instruments/patches directly from the keyboard.

Also see where they're releasing an 88-key controller keyboard.
Want to play it... but if the action isn't too resistant, I'd like to get one.
Stiff weighted keys are murder on my tendinitis.

John, please reread the thread - in the context of the OP he's asking a feature request for support for Cakewalk VST instruments to support NI controllers...

This belongs either in cakewalk instruments forum or feature requests forum, probably feature requests, it does not belong in hardware forums or Sonar forums.

*** You can't request cakewalk to write some functionality in their VST synths in the hardware forum. Chicken before egg ***

I hope you can see this now...

    Cheers...

Well to the OP if this does not get moved please create a request in the feature request forums, stating this is specific to Cakewalk synths I guess?

Anyway, if the OP does not mind me diverting from topic, looks interesting.. Looks good, it is an extension of course but I wish manufacturers would just sit around the table and discuss a more flexible open source standard and attempt to kill VST. It's getting messy.

At least this looks more useful then their 'stems' landgrab, where FLAC was already a far more than capable format.

I'm still not convinced that this is worth the cost. This beast is gonna cost $1,000 and I don't feel it's where the Advance controller is. I mean, for Komplete it's spot on (even if you need to use your monitor for actual browsing which pretty much ruins it for me) but outside of Komplete it's just a standard 88 key controller with ribbon sliders.

somewhat true. but with there new update coming , The knobs have haptic feedback which is awesome with endless encoders so , you'll be able to see where your at before twisting the parameter on all Vst's ( Pretty Cool ) , Not to mentions everything else that works in Komplete will work with other Vst's too. So its way beyond a 88 Key controller..
My only worry is what NI dose to older products. Point in case ( THE KORE ) . As a company there is no love between Cakewalk and NI , I've contacted NI and been told many times that they don't even have a copy of sonar to test out issues I had, That onetime there were waiting for the demo to be released in order to investigate an issue I had.  Dunno if that is true but I been told that form tech support.
But I do love my NI s49. One thing is there driver is pretty bad if I have my keyboard on while  loading up sonar, Sonar will not respond until I power off My komplete s49,  Immediately sonar loads after powering off the s49. Power the s49 up and all is good.  . Also had a tough time installing the driver for windows 10. Obvious issues there>>

Well back to the VST extension, I guess should be excited as it looks like it might support Maschine. Looking at the list of third parties supporting it thougth, not very and not surprised..
