IO Problem

Since moving from PC to laptop recording, I am having some issues. For testing purposes, I have simplified the setup by using only the internal sound card. I create a vsti track with LoungeLizard. When I hit notes on the virtual keyboard, the level meters show that signal is received and I hear sound from the internal speakers. When I hit record, nothing records! By default, the input is routed from the Virtual Controller and the output is routed to the internal soundcard. I have tried other input/output combinations with no success. I have tried the same thing with my normal setup through my NI Komplete Audio 6 interface with the same result. Is there something I am missing? Any and all advice and assistance would be gratefully received.

Did you check your settings for recording on your internal sound card in the configuration screen?

Hello cowboydan. I checked the configuration screen in Sonar which shows the appropriate devices.

I mean your sound card configuration for the laptop itself. Maybe your recording volume is not set up right.

Check your control panel for your audio card.

Yes, cowboydan. I checked that and all appears ok there, as well. As I mentioned, the volume meter in Sonar shows the signal being received.

Did you set the input of the track you are recording on? Output of the track to the master?

Hitting record only arms the track. You have to hit the record button on top of the screen.

I have tried each input/output option available with the same result.

With the track armed are you getting a signal on the track meter? Did you turn on the echo button on the track? It must be some kind of routing of the track .

Hello Danny. With the track armed, signal is being received on the track meter. I have variously turned the echo button on and off to see if it makes a difference - it doesn't! Yes, I agree it is a routing issue but I can't figure it out.

I can't think of anything else except that maybe you need a midi track in order to set up recording. If your sound card is good and you have signal and your output with playback is good you should be able to record.

Thank you for your help, Danny. I have tried the midi track option as well with no success. All the settings indicate that it should record but, obviously, I am doing something wrong. I will persevere and see what happens. Do you use the mixcontrol software with your Saffire Pro?

Not really. Just mixing already recorded tracks.

Sure. The strange thing for me is this. When I create midi tracks, they record without a problem. The audio of the midi tracks comes from an old Sound Canvas module and is fed back into Sonar via my audio interface. When I create a new audio track, I am able to record the output of the Sound Canvas without a problem.
