ISO 800... there when you need it.

All I know is that I wanted to shoot at 1/1000th of a second... just in case... so I went with ISO 800 and shutter speed priority.

I'll run it through a de-noise process when I get back to the mother ship.

A Humpback Whale breaching the surface.

best regards,
mike

Humpbacks are known to flip on their back when the cameraman has chosen the wrong settings.

The wont show their face if there's no chance of being portrayed at their best.

They are the professional super-models of the whale world.  If you'd got it right you'd have got a sultry pout.

I actually felt sort of lucky as the whale only breached once while we were out there and I happened to be standing right in front of it when it happened. I got that photo and 5 more of the splash after the breach. :-)

It came out of the water so quickly... all of a sudden it was there floating in the air.

We did get to see them surface a bunch and I actually got one nice shot with the eye looking up at us.

I've never experienced anything like it so I came back ashore with a big smile on my face.

best regards,
mike

I think it's called a "pike" when the monarch lives in a castle.
