I think they found there wasn't much call for a nobbled VST. It seems they've worked out it's more profitable making plug-ins work on as many platforms as possible rather than trying to lock them into their own. If you are going to introduce a prorietary new format you need a better strategy than just adapting a readily available technology. One company is making a huge success out of proprietary plug-ins already and although they'd been planning many years before it didn't get launched until a good while after the PC appeared it's already showing a marked growth in that companies fortunes and theres new stuff for it every week. It's funny I got a hostile reception from many upstairs by suggesting that might be the case when modules first started being introduced. A certain professional advocate of Cakewalk's even told me and the rest of the forum that the costs of supporting a plug-in on many platforms was prohibitive......I even got thrown off and banned for disagreeing with such a well-known music biz luminary (and I even got his name right!!!) and pointing out the support costs should amount to no more than a percentage of sales. It seems more bizarre now recounting that than it did when it happened, but there we have it. Now everyone is saying how cool it is now the PC-2A has been made to work everywhere and it can now accomodate a side-chain input. Now you can put an FX chain in the Pro-Channel I can see even less point for a new module, I think we might see some more plug-ins that happen to have a Pro Channel option but they will be available for the wider market. I see no future at all in a PC only module, I think it's something that will now be filed in the same place as 'Beatscape' and 'Voice Mail Recorder', or the place I call "I did tell you but you didn't listen".

mike_mccue How about a white noise screen... that way we can all agree that it works. I'm currently figuring out what I could do with a module that uses logic gates to select from a choice of among any other things different control voltage outputs. I'm thinking how would that work in Sonar. It's $9 which seems a bit steep to me so I'm hesitating. In Sonar it would actually be a no brainer then if it found that one of the PC modules had an uncommanded change of state then it could be routed to restore it's original intended state. Of course I'd prefer that the code handled the idea if the user has changed the state then it should stay there until otherwise instructed, but I will concede I'm just old fashioned like that.

I remember when I was first looking at X1 one of the things that drew me in was the claims about the ProChannel and how having EQ and compression etc "built in" to the strips means a much lower CPU load. But is this really true? I could never work out how this could be the case. It's not like putting a reverb on a bus and channeling multiple tracks through that. Every instance of a PC compressor is a separate instance with its own settings, so therefore must occupy its own process in memory. So how is that reducing CPU load?

If a module is enabled then it is taking up cycles for DSP use like any other instance of a VST, but the graphics overhead is reduced as it all appears in a re-used window rather than a different window for each instance. If they are turned off (disabled) in the Pro-Channel of course they won't (shouldn't) be loading up the processor at all. So basically they are just channel inserts with a recycled display.

Serious hat on: I wish the Baker's bake a much leaner cake; SONAR Core Edition (which has all the essential midi and audio editing features + revamp V-Vocal and AS to be as good as Melodyne) and make the Core Edition 'free updates for life' (acessed only by valid registered users) whereas all the tightly integrated addons such as; PC , the Matrix, V-Vocal+AS and other plugins) all sold separately. Serious hat off: I think the UI needs to have more wood and use shiny metal dials and faders, and of course be lead and mercury free and run on solar power to conserve workflow.

What do you have against lead and mercury?? Dood... they are both shiny!! Also, if it runs on solar power that just ruins it for me... I need cloudy days and dark nights. How is one supossed to do the blues on a sunny day? I think I will get out my little bottle of mercury, roll it around in my hand and smile. Perhaps I will grow an etra finger. I had to order my last thermometers from India so I could get real mercury thermometers... got a 5-pack! J

Analyser for me. I like the concept of the display following the active track a la PC modules. If regular VSTs done that I'd like them as much too - but they don't and that slows me down as well as confoosing us Norfolk folk.

I have the new CA-2A with a screw (which when turned does not make the VU blue). Seripusly, I do not understand your statement.

Bub's referring to the screw under the meter of the PC4k buss compressor. Click on it and drag, the VU meter light will turn blue but you may need to start playback. That might even feature in a video somewhere.
