Does all this mean that Sonar basically has new License protection now, like the NI products and the IK Multimedia products and the Steinberg products etc?
Or is the Cakewalk command center only for maximum convenience and streamlined processes? From what i can gather this new command center thingy seems like a form of licence protection for Cakewalk.
Let me put it this way, will Sonar work just fine without the command center?

The only reason i'm asking about this is because i hate copy-protection (which is one reason i refuse to buy Cubase). From what i can tell copy-protection basically says to me that we must have an internet connection at one time or another for things to be ok and up-and-running properly; ideally I would rather things be perfectly fine and work 100% without ever needing access to the internet. Someone please tell me that the Cakewalk command center is not a "license center"

The main advantage to having it on disk is that you can install it on multiple machines without having to download it every time. You'll be able to save the updates on CD or USB stick.
Does that mean I can take it to work

Yes, I installed mine on an offline machine without the command center. Here's what to do: Download Sonar, start the program, and click on "help" in the toolbar. In the dropdown, you'll see "offline activation". Click it, then click "export authorization request", and it will put a request file on your desktop. Put that file on a USB stick, and take it to an online computer. Go to your account section on Cakewalk's site. Click on "activate". It will say "choose file". Double click the request file from your USB stick and hit "submit. Cakewalk will put an authorization file in the download folder. Save that to your USB stick and take it to your offline computer. Open Sonar, click "help", then "offline activation", then "import authorization file". Select the file you received from Cakewalk, and import it, and you're done. Hope that helps.

It seems like the Command Center idea was not designed with users in mind that don't connect their dedicated music computer to the internet... or at least on a limited basis. Walt

You're right, Walt. But thankfully, they didn't go the XLN route, and leave out offline users entirely.
