IVGI Free Sat | Klanghelm

IVGI can deliver very soft and subtle saturation, that feels at home
on the master buss. It is equally capable of very dense and dirty
distortion effects to spice up single tracks.
 
IVGI's base sound is comparable to the DESK mode in the upcoming
big brother SDRR.
 
Just as SDRR, IVGI reacts dynamically to the input signal. Even the
modelled fluctuations react dynamically and also change depending
on the drive setting, so that it doesn't get in the way of the
SOUND. Stereo tracks benefit from it's modelled crosstalk behaviour.
Just as its big brother SDRR, IVGI features a “Controlled
Randomness”, which determines the internal drift and variance inside
the unit. It contributes to the livelyness and realness of IVGI's
saturation character. All internal processes are modulated to some
extent to make this possible.

    The SDRR looks like it could be a winner I have liked his previous offerings and the prices are great.

    Hmmm.... Just did a quick test on bass and drums. Spontaniously I say this might be useful.

    Worth a download. I was able to get some nice megaphone-type distortion effects on a vocal track with it.
     
    IVGI sounds different from my other saturation/distortion/exciter plugins, because the harmonics don't just go up and down with the Drive knob but additionally change their respective ratios. In fact, it's best not to think of the Drive knob as a drive control at all, but rather a distortion profile selector. With the drive knob between 2 and 3, you get clean 2nd and 3rd- order harmonic distortion similar to Ozone's Tube mode. At higher settings, you get both even and odd harmonics and rather extreme distortion. The "Response" knob further alters the amount of upper harmonics in the mix.
     
    IVGI must be internally oversampled because I could not get it to alias, even at extreme settings. The only other exciter in my toolbox that absolutely refuses to alias like this is Ozone's. It's certainly the best in this regard among the freebies in this class.


    All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.
