Idea: an attachable 5" or 7" touchscreen under monitor for mixing

Yes, the title says it all. This seems like something that'd be VERY easy and pretty inexpensive - between $45 and maybe $75 - to pull off. I've been considering getting a small HDMI touchscreen, just something between 5" and 9" perhaps building a little mount or case for it and in SONAR (or my software of choice), placing the channel mixer on that screen to be able to mix "by hand".

Not sure if it'd be a good idea though. I'm not even sure I'll go through with it, more of just thinking about the concept itself to see whether it'd be doable. I guess this might be testable (albeit to an imperfect degree) using an iPad/tablet or phone and some sort of remote desktop that supports multiple monitors. I might give it a shot for a few days and see if it works any.

FWIW, You can get a nice 20" 10-point multi-touch monitor for under $200.

Attach that to a mic stand and good to go!

The last thing I want to do is high jack this thread but I had a similar idea.
About creating a meter bridge for Sonar.

Something I could mount right below my monitor to see each level of each track.
I could use the console view or plug ins but I have a feeling a 20 inch monitor would be over kill.
Any ideas ? Possibly a smaller monitor I could drag the multi dock of the console view in to ?

Unless you're talking a USB-3 display (which I'd avoid - can cause performance issues), it's hard to find a monitor significantly smaller than 20".
The small USB-3 monitors are meant to be used as a second (portable) display for a laptop.

A cheap android tablet running touchDAW will do something pretty similar, running as a mackie controller.
