Idea for new feature - Virtual masking tape/grease pencil

Back "in the day" prior to automation when you'd have a bunch of hands on the board working out "mix/moves", we would always find a way to physically mark the locations of faders and knobs so you could quickly get to where you need to get to and then back again.  We basically used either masking tape with pencil marks or grease pencil type of markers that was removable.  Now of course automation locks in that information once its written but I think it would still be nice for while were working out the moves for the first time to have a way to mark this type of info on the screen for quick visual reference.  All it would be would be a way to put a little line at postion a and then one say at position b so for those that like to maybe still mix, even partly like that, could have visual reference points on the screen that we can create.    When I say "all it would be" I do realize this could be a very difficult thing to achieve but I would love to have that feature and actually it would end up saying time in my workflow.  Using a visual mark on the channel strip is faster to lock onto then watching the actual numbers on the strip to say go from 5.2 to 4.7 during the guitar solo or pan 53% right to 13% left etc...  Little visual marks that you can drop on and then erase would be so cool!

I actually just take a quick picture with my cell phone, of whatever screen has what I want captured for later, and that gets me anything I have thus far wanted to retain.

I also tend to create and jot entries in either a Word doc or a Notepad text doc for the project I am working on, and simply save it to the project folder for easy association with the project when I want to open it back up for anything.

The above two methods have worked well for me for a long time, if any of that might be of use to you.

I support your thought for something, in any case - there are track notes available now, if you hadn't been aware, by the way.

Are you aware of Value > Set Start/Set End/Set Current? I use it all the time to make quick, predictable changes when writing automation.
