If I Give My Heart To You
I posted a song, a while ago, that was supposed to sound like an early 1960's BritPop number but to say it was OK is probably a big stretch. Sooooo --- I thought I had better try again with a different number. In this attempt I am trying to emphasize the style and sound of the era. So, things are very uncomplicated (the best match for my skills). The drums are uncomplicated with few fills or changes. The bass line is a simple walking bass style (sort of). The rhythm guitar plays steady simple chords and the lead sticks to the script with out complicated fills or breaks. The song concentrates on harmonies and melody (melody -- that is hard concept for a rhythm lover like me). With all that explaining, I hope that it sounds something close to that style. Any suggestions and feedback on whether I reached my goal would be appreciated. Thanks. If I Give My Heart To You http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_music.cfm?bandID=963481

I'd say yes. totally reminds me of 60's Britpop. So in keeping with the old sound I don't think I could offer with regards to improving the mix. Groovy baby :)

Very nice song. Playing and singing was also good. I think this hit right in the target. I think the bass could be a little louder, otherwise mix sounded balanced on my headphones( I used Sennheiser Px100s. I have also Grado Sr80s but I used Sennheisers now). kakku

ok freddy I see where you wanna take this..the basics are here and i love the tune....but let me just add this...there is a little digital sizzle to the vox and when I think the type of music in that era I think warmth of tubes....so I'd try to smooth that out. Also I would be doing so monster Panning to simulate that time frame as well... once your done mixing to your pleasure if you wanna try an alt mix email me and i'll give it a go... thepogue at yahoo dot com cool tune!!

Sounds like you got close, I think perhaps the vox is slightly over processed and the other thing to my furry ears it sounds a bit to thick, by that I mean my furry memory of the sixties tends to remember that the bandwidth was quite limited and tunes often sounded quite thin. I would also add that I have been a sleep since then and been involved in an intergalactic struggle consequently I could just be spurting demented dribble Thanks for sharing Freddy.

Definitely tends toward that era. I remember what they (we) used to use back then for equipment and have to hand it to the engineers back then. The good ones gave us nice music with not a whole lot to work with like we have today. It is enjoyable, Freddy and I think you hit pretty darned close to the mark.

You nailed the jangly guitar sounds on this as well as the overall vibe. Troggs, move over! The only thing that caught my ear was a slightly off-pitched lower harmony on the final chorus that could easily be fixed. This is definitely a great period piece.

A bit George Harrison, I don't mind this, the mix is a little muddy and lacks punch but I like the track. Ben

For me, the guitar on the right seems a little thin even for the style, and as Lynn mentioned that lower harmony on the final choruses is a bit off. But overall it sure sounds like a 60's pop tune - mission accomplished.

Great song Freddy! I think you nailed that 60's feel. It sounds as if it could have been made back then. The guitars are well done. I might work with the harmonies just a little to get them tighter. It seemed like just a few places here and there they could maybe be tuned a slight amount..nothing that stuck out much. I enjoyed the listen!

Hi Freddy. This is sixties alright - I think you nailed it. Strange to hear you play anything other than blues - but you did this really well. This was great fun to listen to - bet it was fun to record.

There's some non-trivial dissonance in the vocals in places Freddy.

First of all I'm sorry for the delay in responding. A family medical event (all is well that ends well) demanded my attention and as I am sure you will agree family trumps all. We have also had two sets of visitors to our humble abode (Gee - it must be winter up north lol). Thank you Gus. I appreciate your taking the time to listen and the kind words. Hi Antti. Thanks for you kind comments. Hey Tom. Thanks for the feedback and kind offer. I very much appreciate it. As I really don't know what I am doing with mixing, I will take you up on your kind offer. I'll be sending you an e-mail now that the visiting crowd has gone. Thank you my furry friend (Wookie). I have never known your fuzzy ears to fail. I would like to have less of the sharp digital sound and more of the round sounds of analog. Since I don't know what I am doing in this area I am going to count on Tom helping me out. Hi Warren. I saw a biography about Tom Dowd (Atlantic recording engineer/producer and wizard). Most of his work was done prior to digital and multi-track studios. It was amazing what they were able to produce given the limited resources. Thanks for taking time to listen and for your comments. Hi Lynn. I appreciate your comments and suggestions. I have listened a number of times but my tired old ears can't quite hear the off-pitch harmony. Since I doubt my own ability in these things I asked the lady next door who teaches this stuff to give it a listen. I now have my doubts about her ability, since she commented that she heard it slightly but it was not enough to worry about? I know you are good but now I am not so sure about her. So, I will try giving it a re-do and if that doesn't work I think I will just back off a slight bit on the volume for the low harmony. Thanks again for the suggestions. Hey Ben. Thanks for the suggestions. I hope that my re-work might address this. Normally, I take suggestions and apply them to whatever new thing that I am working on but I kind of like this song and I would like to get it right. Thank you Joshua. I appreciate your comments. Hi Steve. Thanks for listening. I got the message about the harmony in the last chorus and will try to remedy it. Thank you Tim. I appreciate the kind comments and hopefully will be able to address the issues. Hey Mark. This indeed was a fun song to do. The Blues is still at the center of my heart but every once in a while one has to cut loose with something different. This must be one of those times ;>) Thanks for the kind comments buddy. Hi Heywood. Thanks for the heads-up

Fab Gear Could easily be from the era - agree on that harmony being a little off
