If I don't see you no more in this world...

It'll be because something went incredibly wrong w/ my OS upgrade. My first since, uh... Since my Windows 2000 to XP upgrade, over 10 years ago.

I already know that I'm losing Rapture and Dimension Pro in the process because they don't support recent OS, and probably never will. I'm also temporarily losing Sampletank and its siblings - no 32 Bit support in Logic X.

Since my wife suffered an injury at work earlier last week and is off since, this seems like the proper time to do maintenance work and things like that...

Anyway, download is over, install window just popped up.
This is exciting...

See you guys later. :P

Took forever - much longer than I expected - but I'm back. And I had plenty of time to clean up the studio and reorganize it. Little things which make a difference I guess - like having my main guitar closer and on my right side. Also pushed the bigger amps in the back of the room, brought my little Marshall closer (because that's the one I spend the most time playing, brought my compressors closer too, so they're easier to access when I track bass, and such... Dosn't show on the picture, but the room just feels much wider and less cluttered.

Rain, I little piece of advice...

When your wife is at home sick and you're looking after her it's NOT called maintenance work...  (even if a bit of touching up is involved)

LOL Thanks Karyn.

Actually, she isn't doing bad, besides the headaches. She hit her head pretty hard while climbing back up on the grid earlier last week, and they've been following up, having her go through all kinds of tests - MRI and all - just to make sure. Cirque take even the smallest injury very, very seriously.

Good news: Dimension Pro and Rapture are still working - in Logic 9, that is. Seems that installing them on a machine running Mountain Lion wouldn't work, but they do survive the upgrade to an unsupported OS.

Since Logic 9 and X can co-exist, I guess I don't have to give up on those synths just yet - worst case I can always access the via Logic 9.

And here I was thinking you thought it was good time to upgrade because your wife got a huge disability check for an on the job injury.

But I'm on Mac - so the OS is only $20 and my DAW software is only $200. ;)

Hey Rain, first I'd like to add a +1 to the little wifey being ok.

What are you using as a recording desk?
Is that a few different pieces used together or one desk?
Also, monitor stands or part of the desk. I like the 'compact' setup unlike my 6'x8' L shaped room hog.

Thanks,
Mike

It's all "modular" to put it nicely. The main desk is just a regular black office desk, ordered from Amazon. It's very similar to one I've used previously and which I liked a lot. It has the keyboard shelf which is perfect for my midi keyboard.

The monitors are on a shelf. The desk had none, and I have absolutely no skills to build or modify anything properly - but two half-blocks of concrete and a shelf at home depot worked just fine for me...

I do use Auralex foam under the monitors.

When we moved in this house, we bought new furniture and ended up w/ a couple of extra night stands. I ended up using one then both as extensions for my desk, one on each side.

As I said I have zero carpentry skills, but ever since I was a kid, I've "created" what I needed buy recycling pieces and parts. This also allows me to constantly modify things to suit my needs. Wouldn't work in a commercial facility, but then, a commercial facility desk probably wouldn't work for me either...
