If I would have known this ...
... I would have taken BP meds a lot sooner. You know how, when you're stoned, lets say, for example (OH MY GOD), you go to take a drink, and it seems like it's 20 minutes for your arm to reach the glass, then get up to your mouth?? Well, that's how I feel right now. I'm not so sure this is a good thing, but I"m gonna go with it for a while. Just wish the wife wasn't in Canada right now. Kind of freaked out. Doc said something yesterda about 190 over 100 being bad, so he gave me some meds. Wow. I know I couldn't drive taking these. This is messed up. I'm playing Dante's Inferno and listening to Mooch and Bapu's rendition of Come Together. Oh my God. It fits perfectly. Creepy man. Also took some antibiotics.Hope I'm not having some kind of reaction. It said to take 3 horse pills together, seems a bit much to me.

Please send me a hand full of these at your earliest convenience. Thanks for your support. PS. Just kidding. Clean, sober and proud. If you have any question as to the effect of your med's, call the pharmacy and see if that's a normal reaction or if you should stop. Mike

Yea take it from someone who knows how to mix and master LoL, be careful. The combanation of antibiotics and BP pills might not be a great option esp if you are slighty unfit, does your DR know about the antibiotics??? Peace

Thanks guys. Hi Ben, yes, he prescribed them the anti-b's and the bp's. I still feel really really out of it but it's not getting worse so I think that's a good thing. I went in for a frickin' ear ache. Thought I had an infection but he said it looks fine, but the bp was off the charts. So he gave me some anti-b's along with the bp's just to be safe because he said I had a fever also. Doctors. Sheesh. This is why I never go. I end up feeling worse than when I went in! doh!

I take 4 different meds a day to control mine ol pal. And a couple of them have just the kind of side effects you speak of. It took quite literally a couple of years to get a mixture that would both work and that I could tolerate but right now I seem to be running hot straight and normal. Here's a tale of caution tho: For over 4 years while I was in total workout, weight loss and BP lowering mode I would come home after work, take my BP meds, drink a glass of Metamucil and then work out. During those 4 years my BP would not come down no matter what my doctors tried. Then one day quite by accident I told my GP my daily routine. He asked me to stop taking the Metamucil for awhile. Within a week my BP was not only under control but was way too LOW! The Metamucil had been "soaking up" the BP meds and nullifying them. For 4 friggin years!! Don't get me wrong. There's nothing wrong with good ol Metamucil...just take it at least 3 hours before or after your BP meds or you'll be wasting your time. Get that BP under control ol pal. They don't call it the "silent killer" for nothin.

Is there anybody in there? Just nod if you can hear me. Is there anyone home? (Good call on the panic attack, that might be the case - still, I'd be on the phone to a 24-hour pharmacy to ask what they think!)

I'm still here. My ISP went down last night. Seems to be up and running this morning but real slow. I still feel out of it a little, but I'm functional. Good thing I decided to take the first one at night. One thing I've learned about BP and doctors ... most of the ones I've been to don't know how to take a BP reading properly. I had a doctor tell me one time that your arm should be straight out from your body and be supported when they take it, not hanging down at your side, not 45 degrees, but 90 degrees from your body as straight out from your heart as possible. He used to tuck my arm under his and hold it up. When the nurse initially took it the other day it was 190/100, my arm was about 45 degrees from my body just dangling there. I told her she took it wrong and she got a pissy with me. Told her to take it again and do it the way my old doctor told me. That time it came out 168/80, still high but a hell of lot better than 190/100. She still put down on the report that it was 190/100 ... which is bad, especially when switching insurance companies like I'm going to be doing here shortly. Grr. So ... while we're on the subject of BP ... next time you guys get checked, remember the 90 degree rule. Elbow level with your heart, arm straight out and supported, feet touching the floor. It makes a huge difference ...

All the docs I've been to have never given BP medicine due to one reading. if BP is dangerously high they'll send you to the ER, but if it's high just from one visit but not high enough to go to the ER, they'll want you to monitor it either yourself or by coming back into the office once a week or so until they determine what your average BP is. my doc doesn't want to give out BP medicine without a history of high BP, I guess is what Im' saying - so your experience seems odd to me that he would do that anyway. maybe you need a second opinion?

Hope you feel better Bub. I use one of those home BP units to check mine every several months. My BP is slightly high but only by a few points. A lot of guys over 40 take those baby aspirin once a day. I think they are like 50mg. I was doing that but decided against it because of what I read about the long term use of aspirin. But a lot of guys are doing that and it seems to help.

@ beagle: I have had high BP before and was on some meds. Had to stop taking them because even the lowest dosage made my bp too low. Which leads me back to my post about them not taking people's bp's properly. For all I know it was normal, but was reading high because of the way they were taking it. I have to go back in on Wed to get it rechecked and blood work. Thanks.

The aspirin thing is more about thinning the blood, which aspirin does, and reducing inflammation, which aspirin also does. As far as blood pressure.... I hear that petting a dog or even a cat has the effect of lowering blood pressure although probably not by too much or for long. Also.... interesting tid bit of information that I learned in a martial arts class from a sensi who ran a school and worked a day gig in a prison as a guard.... About midway down the throat... on both sides of the wind pipe, there is a pair of small indents that can be felt. You may have to feel up and down the side of the windpipe to find them the first time.... they are closer to the top if the neck.. tilt your head back a bit and they are easier to feel. Anyway... the nerves that regulate the body's BP are very close to the surface at this point. Applying pressure to these 2 points tends to block the flow of energy and as a result the brain thinks the BP is higher than it really is and sends a signal to lower the BP. Mild pressure is all that is needed here. Releasing that pressure allows the brain's signal to get through and the BP drops. The sensi who told me this pointed out that when they have unruly inmates and the other guards have the prisoner pinned....he reaches in and after applying this pressure hard for a few seconds, then releasing it, causes a few brief seconds of unconsciousness, allowing handcuffs to be applied easily. I also heard from an elderly person I was speaking to that a Dr had actually told this man to use this technique to lower his BP using a mild level of pressure.... It is not a choke...and it is not a painful technique..... it is simply a form of accu-pressure on some vital pressure points You might try that..... after all...what's the worse that could happen.....right?
