If One of Your Posts Has "Disappeared"...

...it probably hasn't, but been flagged by the spam filters and put into "post purgatory." The forum filters are quite aggressive, which keeps these forums remarkably spam-free. However, I have noted an almost exponential increase in spam over at Harmony Central in the past few weeks. Our spam filters are nowhere near as robust as Akismet but if the same thing is happening here, then I'm not surprised posts are being flagged more aggressively.

I don't know precisely how things work at this forum, but here's my experience based on other forums. The good news is that spam filters DO learn. So for example, if I do a post that gets flagged and it's restored, the filter figures out that the person posting is probably okay and stops being so aggressive.

But the bad news is that spam filters learn. So if a bunch of posts are flagged and not restored, the spam filters decide it's probably spam and get more aggressive with similar posts.

If you post something and it disappears, PM me with the thread from which it disappeared. Then I can scan the thread to see if any posts were deleted by the spam filters, and restore them.

If I got any of this wrong, hopefully someone from Cakewalk will set me straight.

Hi. I just tried to send you a PM, but it seems to have disappeared due to a name in the PM.
It's not in my sent folder..
This has been across several threads, so I didn't mention one in particular.
All the best.

Thanks for restoring this post Craig

I cant actually see why it would be filtered as the only copy/paste I did was from Cakewalks site itself
(the Sonar Platinum online help guide).

That or possibly the use of Italics. Which I have noticed an issue with disappearing posts.

I thank you for restoring my post on that thread.

This might have been why some of my edited posts have disappeared when editing earlier
Never thought of that before.

can someone please restore my post here
thank you

Im trying to understand what im doing wrong here but I cant pin point anything except posts disappear after an edit is made.
There are no links, no italics, nothing. simply a comment to a quote. a little frustrating to say the least.

This was my post:

Steve_Karl
chuckebaby
Then im guessing either A- your amps, speakers are not high quality or B- Your mic'ing technique is flawed.
Im all for Amp Sims and I believe they have come a long way but even Bias FX compared to guitar rig 5 is 1000 miles apart. but nothing and I mean nothing will reproduce like a real guitar amp.

I think it's what we're each individually looking for and what each of us thinks is "good" and feels comfortable with, more than anything else. That is where the relativity exists. It's a matter of what we prefer.
"nothing will reproduce like a real guitar amp" ... well ... if you feel that way then that's great ... for you. I just don't miss it.

My gear was fine, as was the gear that was in the pro studios, and the engineers in those studios.
I'm not saying I didn't like the amped sound when I was using it. It's just than now, I'm getting much more touch sensitivity and have much greater control over tone. Granted, a lot of that is the DAW and doing it in the box as opposed to on tape, but I can safely say I'll never go back to beating on logs with an amp and a mic. for recording.
You might hate my guitar sound ... and that's ok with me. Everyone is allowed to have personal taste. At least I think so. But of course, I don't expect anyone else to feel the way I do.
What matters to me I how I feel about it, when I'm playing ... ... because I'm playing off of the sound and it's making it happen for me better than it ever has in the past.
Your right Steve.
I have to do a better job at respecting other peoples choices. Something im still struggling with.
What might be good for me, is not always what's best for someone else. Suggesting your technique might be flawed was also pretty ignorant of me.

I used guitar rig for many years and had good results with it.
However, when I go back to those recordings now, I hear sounds that im not happy with.

But you know what, a good engineer can make almost any Amp Sim sound good.
So ironically, maybe it was my technique that was flawed

I restored both posts so Akismet wouldn't think I deleted one of them, but marked the second one "Duplicate post."

Chuck, try this: put the SONAR X2 Tutorials blurb between "Elements of Love" and the system specs. That way the last thing in your post won't be links.

Note that in my sig, the links are inserted into text. That might make a difference as well. So for example you could say Use a Drum Machine to Trigger Session Drummer so that the link is inserted in the text. It might also get more people to click on it if they know the subject matter, you never know

a lot of time when you got back to edit a typo right after posting, the post disappears ... so that seems to have nothing to do with the content (as it posted OK just seconds before) but with the timing / editing / same content going through the filter within a short time frame ...

i'm almost certain if I go back and edit this, it will disappear ... so i won't

Well, yeah - I edited twice (or three times) because I forgot some stuff - when it suddenly wasn't there anymore I posted it again and had to edit two-three times because an URL wasn't displayed.

Problem is, it is an important (relatively spoken) Bug report and for ease of posting I copy-pasted the mail to support in there. As soon as I can PM I'll PM, but somehow rewriting the report is a bit tedious - with the possibility of it being removed again.

Suggestions?

Any host can restore a post. PM or contact any host if you don't see your post. We can see posts that have been removed when we view a thread and often we just restore them. We are able to view the flagged post and decide whether it should be restored. I routinely restore posts. My only issue is often a poster will repost thinking it didn't catch or something and we see a  bunch of posts. We then have to decide which to restore.

When sending a PM please give us as much information about it. I am sorry that any one is inconvenienced by this.

Best
John

That's a good point. I've had posts that I edited shortly after posting do the disappearing act.

It makes sense is a way in that one characteristic of spam bots is they keep trying to post at high speed, so a spam detector is likely to regard such symptoms as indicative. Another sign of potential bot activity seems to be if the same account or IP address attempts a number of data entries in a short period.

The problem is that spam/abuse detectors are trying to use a technological approach to solve what is essentially a social problem - people wanting to disrupt, or insistant that everyone one the planet gets to see their spam all the time. Fighting the stuff has been an arms race since the mid 90s, and the moer effective the technology is at blocking stuff the more likely it is to also make false positives and decide genuine content is abuse.
