If Y@u Think I'm G@@d

I was driving home from a very bizarre evening in outlandish proportions and this haunting little riff was crying in my head all night.   I thought it was born to be a trance like type song with not a lot of corner turning....just a kind of dance song.
Even though I'm too old to dance like this i still enjoy the thought of it so i blew the dust off my guitars and gave it a whirl.  I'm just wondering if the guitar riff is in there enough ;P

Again, chances are it might not be your cuppa...but it's all i've got tonight.
Hopefully it will also be re-sung by my female vocalist friend upstate.

Piano and Kalimba ~  Jaspar Katinki
3 Guitars~ Bert Swerl
Bass~ Creighton Hack
Drums~ Firth Thud
Vocals~ Tony Cheuvanist

Thanks for the listen.

You should drive home from bizarre evenings more often Rick, this was cool.

Very catchy song, one that is going to be stuck in my head for some time i guess. (a good thing) Lyrics were super too.
    The ending was great also.

Still love your vocals Rick. Why are you having a female sing in your place?

    Hello Mark,

I'm happy you enjoyed this one.  It was a lot of fun to be so retro....tremelo and all.   I'm trying to get a female because of this small collection of trip-hoppy, lounge type songs that are all written from a female perspective...(kinda, sorta).
Thank you for the listen and comments.

I like that repitious bass riff and the overall 60's feel (Eric Burdon and the Animals came to mind). There's a slight spooky, weird feeling in this, which I like. Great piano solo, could have lasted longer. Some small timing issues that could esasily be corrected in your Daw. Nice!

Yeah, actually, I think you're pretty good Rick..

This feels familiar, yet somehow different for you. I wouldn't use another vocalist, you have a very distinctive "and cool" style with your vocals.

Always liked most of your tunes. They normally sound better on the VOX. But hey, I get that weather and allergy thing, perhaps I'm guessing wrong, but that's what I think I am hearing. I enjoyed hearing this either way. And that old Lemon juice/Honey curing the voice "If you've heard it" is not right, it will not help. Loved the music on this one. Actually I'm listening to this while I am posting, and the freaking INTERLUDE is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I like how you have the bass dancing out there for a few seconds and then return to the voice/song. A lot of people forget that they can showcase various parts on different instruments for different songs and such. Oh well. I guess I have a bad opinion. Just Ignore me. I wish you well and your band!!!! Keep it up! ROCK ON! Serious Noize!

That's good stuff Rick, started off like New Order, but quickly became pure Recklessness Good riff, and you crafted a cool song around it.

very very cool creepy blues. top riff, this i could hear dirtied up and sounding more Nick Cave, easily...personally i would have had a darker chorus, but then i am a bit odd...love the xylophonic chromatics!

    Mikael,
That's a compliment to be within 50 miles of Eric Burden and the Animals.  I'll search out the timing issues and try to tighten.  Thank you for the listen.

Robby of the Still Knot Band,
Thank you for stopping by to have a listen and comment on my midlife crisis.

    Bobby,
Yeah, I do get allergies.  I get them with a vengeance.  I'm glad you liked the breaks and the arrangement.  Thank you for your honest ears and comments.

    Tom,
Nice to see you leaning an ear in here and i'm smiling you are liking the old dog's vocals.  Thank you, sir!

    Hello James,
Oh man, i liked New Order.   Never thought about this sounding that way but i'll love the reference.  I'm going to try and tighten the screws on the recklessness to see if there's more shine in there.   I thank you for your friendly ears and comments.

    Hi Janet,
The riff was not the bass but the guitar line that is repeated about 400 times....i like to get my money's worth
You're tooooo nice about my pseudo piano skills.   It's mostly me imitating my dear Mom's style.  Thank you for the listen!

    Mark,
Ahhhhhh, man......i work all hours to clean up my rampant dirt and you think i should make it dirtier!!! LOL......i do love Nick Cave.  It is very much along those lines as far as the tone i wanted.  I'm glad you liked and i love your ideas.  Thank you!

There is a 60s spy-movie flavor that sets off with the right amount of tension against the vocals.

Vox could be recorded a bit less hot, but I guess it wouldn't be Reckless Gents with that much concern! ;)

The vocals aren't recorded hot i just have them through some loud processing.  I'm sad to see that my work is written off as sloppy just because it's 'reckless'.
I'll have to dig in even harder.

    Thanks for the listen.

If I was going to be directing/producing a movie (let’s say something along the lines of Pulp Fiction, Zero Effect or Blood Simple) and I was asked ‘who will be doing the music?’, I’d  say “well, The Gents of course, The Reckless Gents! Now get out of here and bring me some spring water and my purell.”. It might not happen exactly like that, but you get the idea. Dark, humorous, herky-jerky and fun – as always.

It appears that I am quoting myself (above).  As you can see, I should be kept away from software.

    Hi Rick,

I love this. Great guitar riff and overall vibe.

    Cool piano and guitar solos.

I like the breakdown and the way the guitar riff is played on a vibe-sounding thingy.

    Cool, as always.

As usual Rick, very creative. I've always been amazed at how you can take so many 'odd' little things and make them sound like they were 'meant for each other'. Very catchy little tune. You've managed to avoid the very repetitive/catchy little guitar/bass riffs becoming monotonous. Not easy to do with such riffs as these. And yes, I can hear a female vocalist doing this tune, but you have a fine voice for it yourself. Don't sell yourself short. As I've said before, you have a great voice, and it's perfectly suited for this rather unique, totally Reckless Gents song.

Manny.........LOL...I've quoted myself more than once while bungling around the digital world.   I love that movie "Zero Effect"...one of my top 10.  Thanks for the listen and kind comments as always.

Gary.............That's a marimba- like an African thumb piano.  Thank you, sir , for the kind ears and words...i do appreciate it mucho!

Scotty............I believe you WOULD hand ten!  Just don't do it with your laptop.  Thanks for coming by and giving a nudge.

Darin.............Man, oh man, so nice to hear from you!!!   I've missed you indeed.  I'm happy as can be you enjoyed this retro-ish dark vamp...it is all based on a riff..something i rarely do but i was haunted by it for days....usually a good sign.   Thank you for popping in to visit and leave some kind words.

Very cool Tarantino-esque vibe to this for sure. I can easily imagine this in one of his soundtracks. Mix sounds overly 'verby to my ears listening on lappy, but I wouldn't read too much into that if no-one else hears it that way.

    Ha ha!

I accidentally played it on low fi and time-warped back to the '60s.  Then your chilling vox caught me in the particle accelerator.

Excellent heart and soul; has that hilarious scratchy-vox-scratchy quality I've learned to love and expect from you over the years (at times like grating nails on the chalk board) ...

... while all the other planets dutifully align themselves like instruments from the omega quadrant ('60s startrek)

    The outro is utterly awesome.

The femme may love her opportunity to get too lushy and smoothy for this, so I'll look forward to her dementia as she soars with your excellent vision.

Man oh man. I really like the intro. That Peter Gunn guitar is so cool.

Sorry to say this but the vocals seem pitchy (and I'm the king of pitchy vocals for sure). But maybe it's just me or that is what you were going for?

Philip.............I'm glad you liked ...especially the fact you've gotten adjusted to my nails on the chalkboard voice.  That's loyalty!  :)   Thanks for stopping by.

    Wookie..........Thank you for the listen!

Bapu..............I'm happy you liked the intro.  No doubt there's heaps of pitchiness.  It needs another vocal on this for sure.  Thanks for lending your ears.

    Tim,

I'm not sure who comes close.  there's a boatload of influences like the buzzcocks, some chillout/lounge music, maybe Ventures (on acid)...lots of stuff but no one i'm trying to sound like especially.

    Thanks for the listen!
