If we have to move to something else...

Hi,
 
In case we need to switch to a new DAW, doesn't anyone know if the files we have in Cakewalk projects can be converted to data files and imported to another DAW?  If not, I guess I will have to convert my projects to either MP3's or Wave files and then import them to another DAW.  I am just planning ahead.  I had read on some other forums that Cakewalk said there are potential buyers but if that falls through I have a lot of songs I created I want to keep.

    Sonar can export OMF. If you have another DAW that can import OMF then that will help a lot.

    Splat, Win 10 64bit and all sorts of musical odds and sods collected over the years, but still missing a lot of my old analogue stuff I sold off years ago.

    Thanks. I checked Mixcraft and they don't support OMF.  Oh well!  Their forum suggested exporting as wave files. It's a lot of work but I may not have a choice unless I get another DAW that supports OMF.

    It is not that much work to export wave files:
    1. Select everything.
    2. Export Audio, Source category: "tracks".
    3. Make sure all tracks are highlighted. They should be because you selected everything in the first step.
    4. Make sure sample rate and bit depth are set properly. example: 44.1kHz, 24 bits, or whatever you normally use.
    5. Navigate to where you want to put the wave files and fill in the "File Name" box. All the wave file names will be prefixed with the name you used in the "File name" box.
    6. Click on "export"
     
    The wave files will be exported to the destination you chose in #5.
    These wave files can now be imported into any daw, ie: PT, SAM, SOP, Reaper, etc.

    You can also simply drag audio and MIDI clips from Sonar onto your desktop (or anywhere else) and then drag or import them into another DAW. Not many DAWs can do this.
     
    EDIT:
    This method has some issues tho. At times I've had to redrag the same clip several times to make it work.
    All your audio is in the Audio folder so you don't' really need to drag those. MIDI has to be dragged or exported.

    Hi, I loaded platinum and open the projects folder, but it won't give me the option of selecting everything.  It looks like I need to export each individual song file. Unless there is a way that I can select everything in the file and export all at one?

    You need to open Sonar and export each individual song, one at a time.
