Technically he is a Disney character isn't he? :) I wonder if he regrets that now? :)

Ya know ... I almost replied to you in the Halloween thread and I wish I did now. I actually typed up a long reply, and deleted it because I thought people would laugh at me. But what the hell ... here goes ...

It's tradition in the Bub household, well ... mainly I observe it, my wife is usually out cold by 8pm and I sit here by myself ...

... but every Halloween we watch The Nightmare Before Christmas and Sleepy Hollow. I know this may sound silly, but Nightmare BC is one of my all time favorite movies. And it is stunning on Blu-Ray.

I get so excited every time I see Christopher Lee show up in a Tim Burton movie, or another actor I remember from my childhood that I haven't seen in 30 years. It's like the guy has a telepathic link to my brain and knows my thoughts and puts them in to his movies. The way his movies look are exactly how I remember my childhood, I know it sounds crazy. The dark dreary colors, and then he goes to a bright colorful contrast. The palettes he uses satisfy me and make me feel warm and fuzzy. I know ... I sound like I'm crazy but it's true.

Another tradition is, on Christmas Eve I always watch Scrooge with George C. Scott. What's the connection? Well ... in that show, which came out 25+ years ago now? ... the old lady that went in and stole Scrooge's bed linen's and watch ... Tim Burton cast her as one of the Grandmothers sitting in bed in Charlie And The Chocolate Factory. I couldn't believe my eyes.

Ok, you're sitting around the table deciding who to cast ... and Burton says, "Damn it, get me Liz Smith from that old George C Scott Scrooge remake." Honestly ... who the hell even remembers that lady? I do ... but I'm nuts. LOL! btw ... I had to look up her name, I'm not that crazy. ;)

There's a couple of stop motion movies along the lines of Nightmare BC that came out this year, I haven't seen them, but I can't wait for the Blu-Ray's.

Sure, I know you prefer being a zombie but, do you ever dress yourself up as a scarecrow on Halloween and stand r-e-a-l s-t-i-l-l outside your front door as the little trick-or-treaters come by?  Then when one looks over at you, you smile or wink?

No ... haven't had Trick or Treater's in well over 20 years ... but I will this year. And I have the perfect place to scare the living crap out of them too. I live at the end of a dead end street, surrounded by woods up a long dark driveway on top of a small hill. I could have sooo much fun. Especially with the older kids. I wouldn't scare a 4 year old being pulled around by his/her mom in a wagon if you know what I mean. :)

When I was a kid, there was one place where they dressed up in a gorilla outfit and held a giant bowl of candy in their lap. They would scare the living **** out of the older kids. You'd hear them scream from 2 blocks away.

I love Halloween. I get the same giddy feeling in the pit of my gut as I did on Christmas Eve when I was a kid. I never knew why ... probably just muscle memory of the excitement of it when I was a kid. I loved giving out candy, especially to the younger kids. They would be so excited. That was back in the mid 80's though ... I haven't had Trick or Treater's since then. I wonder what the kids are like now days? Maybe I don't want to know. Heh.

I couldn't tell you how often I've watched Nightmare Before Christmas. Usually, around the beginning of October, I pull out the DVD and watch it, then I'll have it playing in the background every now and then while I'm doing other things. It's part of the ritual - just like I can't decorate a Christmas tree w/o listening to Elvis' original Christmas record. (In fact, I listen to that record all through the year.)

That is a great album. Elvis and Johnny Mathis, wouldn't be Christmas without their music in the background. Other than Chances Are, the only other music I've ever heard by Mathis is his Christmas music. 

When I lived alone, I used to leave movies rolling in the back all the time when I wasn't working on music, so typically, any movie that I like I've watched dozens of times, on and off, sometimes 3 or 4 times in a row. Even the silliest ones.

I was hooked on Dumb & Dumber. I'd bet you I watched that move a hundred times. I know it word for word, scene by scene. There was a kid at work that knew it too and we would go back and forth at lunch. Pissed everyone else off. 

I've always dug Burton's movies. His old animated Vincent - man, that's the story of my life as a kid. Plus all those sounds and the design, that's also straight out of my childhood. So I know exactly what you mean. :)

Forgot to mention - the last time I dressed up for a Halloween party - a few years ago - I dressed as Edward Scissorhands. Pretty cool. I also named my cat Edward, after that same character.

Now that's one of his I haven't seen, I will have to check it out. I've always heard it great.

When I was small, 6 or 7, I was fascinated with Christmas lights. Back then we had the old C7 bulbs, before all this tree hugging crap. They'd be so hot you'd have to give the tree 5 gallons of water a day or the needles would fall off and it would look like a Charley Brown tree. LOL! :) I loved the ones that you could see the filament in, they were colored, but clear. The image of the colors is etched in my mind and in Nightmare BC, he recreates those vivid colors when Jack goes to Christmas town. It blows my mind every time I see, especially when I think of how they did it with stop motion and all of that.

Speaking of LP's ... have you checked out a place called Wax Trax in Vegas yet? I know the guy that owns it. I haven't seen him since I was a 20 or so, he probably doesn't remember me. I used to fix his cash register at his record shop when he lived in PA. I went to his house one time to fix a copier and he had a real 50's Wurlitzer in his living room.

Speaking of LP's ... have you checked out a place called Wax Trax in Vegas yet? I know the guy that owns it. I haven't seen him since I was a 20 or so, he probably doesn't remember me. I used to fix his cash register at his record shop when he lived in PA. I went to his house one time to fix a copier and he had a real 50's Wurlitzer in his living room.

Funny you mention that - I hadn't heard about it but I spotted that store earlier this week while on our way back from the grocery. The name sure caught my attention. We live in Spring Valley, right next to Decatur, so it's actually pretty close. I promised myself we'd stop by on our next day off.

He's quite a character ... bring an extra wallet full of cash ... I saw him sell a guy a 45 of some obscure Doo-Wop group one time for $150. The guy wanted it so bad he was standing there in his silver leisure suite that looked like this ... only silver and white ...



 with white shoes sweating profusely. They started yelling at each other and finally the guy paid him. He threw the money at him and it went flying all over and he said something like, 'here's your damn money Ritchie, you're killing me.' and he stormed out. :-) To be polite about it, he has a reputation for driving a hard bargain.

I can't complain too much about him, he let me borrow an entire set of bootleg Beatles CD's to listen to and see if I wanted to buy them. I think there were 10 or 15 all together in the set. I could easily have copied them and said no thanks, but I didn't. It was a box set of the outtakes of every song from their first four albums. Haven't seen it anywhere since. I guess I should have copied it.

It's a fun place to go look around, but the reviews about him online are dead on.
