Love the song but could a cover band with maybe five guys (named moe) do justice to It? My criteria was for a cover band playing small gigs around town dressed like they just left height ashburry circa 1967 like this Edited to get rid of tons of misteaks. And to add the pitcher

I think that the right orchestration and the right band could pull it off. I'd also bet that we have the right band members in the CH. I depends on how faithful to the original that you're shooting for.

Doesn't have to be totally duplicated. Like Pleasant Valley Sunday needs to be faster and harder rocking. Stepping Stone was meant to be played by the likes of Deep Purple. And the backwards guitar parts - I don't know how to do them. I turned around 180 degrees to record them but it still sounds the same as when I face the other way.

bitflipper I am stuck on Friday on my Mind by the Easy Beats. I love that song. Just not sure if it is psych or pop. Friday on My Mind, if not the greatest pop song ever made, is at least is a case study of what makes a great pop song. I'd include "Lies" by the Nickerbockers on that short list of near-perfect pop masterpieces. Neither is psychedelic by any stretch of definition, but I'll bet anybody who loves "White Room" also likes those two. Hey you and I think much alike. I love Lies by the Knickerbockers. Friday on My Mind - what a great song. Neither is truly psychedelic in the sense of Pictures of Matchstick Men (which is a very odd but very great toon), but they are both period correct and at the edges of the genre. This all started when I decided to re-record I Had Too Much To Dream Last Night this weekend. Took the tempo up a bit, made the drums thunderous...sort of duplicated the tremolo guitar part and hard panned a heavily distorted, fuzzy guitar part to the other side. Left the middle for vocals drums and the output of my new Ricky 4001 bass. How did I get along without the 4001 for so long? What a distinctive sound.

craigb space_cowboy Art Rock (King Crimson, Curved Air, Gentle Giant...) are great genres too. Now if you could play THOSE covers, then my hat (the figurative one since I don't really ever wear one) is off to you! There's some challenging tunes in that genre. I only know one guy (a very talented guitarist that's currently in the Lt. Dan Band with Gary Sinese) that's played in a Gentle Giant cover band. Hey if I could cover KC, I would not be hanging out on forums - hahah. I can do a terrible version of Red - one of the most powerful guitar toons ever. I should learn Larks Tongues In Aspic (any one of about 7 versions, but the one on this album is the best)

I have seen them multiple times. It takes Fripp and Belew to pull that off. As old as KC is (when was first LP - 69/70?), Adrian Belew really brought a life to the band that had not been there since Greg Lake. And I am including the Red era band - with Fripp, Bruford and Wetton. I own everything ever released over on this side of the planet. And I have a bunch of imports. But most proudly, I own Earthbound - recorded live on an Ampex 2 track cassette. It is perhaps the worst recording I own, but I have a mint condition version. It sounds like if KC played through one of those speakers at a drive through restaurant, where you can barely make out what the person on the other end is saying. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earthbound_(King_Crimson_album) Interesting read.

I've heard Earthbound. I agree with you on its quality. I've wondered how the EG and Fripp ever allowed that to be released. Have you heard The Cheerful Insanity of Giles, Giles & Fripp? It's an interesting release--a little more folky than KC. At least they used real mics and recorders.

That's about as well crafted a beautiful song as there is! All it takes is the right bootleg to make a believer out of a hater... I've seen it happen so many times it doesn't even make me laugh anymore. Jack Straw, baby! Jack straw, Morning Dew, Fire on the Mountain and on into infinity... yes we know... we certainly dew. :)

Apples and Oranges Candy and a Current Bun Arnold Layne See Emily Play Yeah, I'm a Barrett-era Floyd fan... Those first few singles were just brilliant. Actually, I always have a Barrett/Pink Floyd cover/re-interpretation in the works somewhere, ever since I first started writing and recording 20 years ago. Sort of an ongoing lifelong tribute to Syd, including original songs inspired by those early years, all stuff which will never be released but which I keep coming back to year after year.

I saw Steppenwolf back in the late 80's or 90's? It was one of those festival deals and they closed the show. It ended up being one of the best live performances I've ever seen... was totally blown away by it. John K. and the entire band were dialed in from the start and it was a truly flawless performance of all their best stuff. The encore? John K. came back out, noodled around for a second, then jumped straight up in the air and hit the opening chords to "The Pusher"... fecking crowd went ballistic. What a night. My cousin and I were right up against the stage barrier for the whole show. We tossed a jib up on the stage and John K. picked it up and finished it off. Awesome night!
