If you don't have
fraud protection on your credit cards I sure advise you to get it. I'm being issued another card. The bank called this morning and last night somebody wanted me to buy their stuff. Sure has been happening a lot it seems. I don't even have time to memorize the number lol. Nice to be able to laugh about it and know somebody is watching out for my interests. Doing a good job at it too.

Good to hear Michael. I had a hack at my card a few years back for over $400. I know it wasn't The Bouy. He has no fee that small.

Since we are pretty consistant with the use of it I believe it makes it easier for them to recognize indifferent usage. I've never questioned what actions they may take after we confirm the fraud but I hope they may have some way of tracking them. What was funny was the guy told my wife, " I knew he wasn't buying wood or guitar parts at that time of night"..LOL.

I have a few cards, they all have protection on them by law. If I discover unauthorized use, I am required to dispute it in a timely manner. Also, my card companies have called me a number of times to ask about a different spending pattern that they saw.... often with a minute or tow of me trying to buy something that was "out of the ordinary" such as the time I bought Jamstix from a German internet server. The card company stopped the transaction and called me. They allowed the charge at my direction as a one time only charge. Pretty cool. But I also took the steps a few years ago to FREEZE my CREDIT. It costs $10 each for the three US credit bureaus. Now, no one...and I mean NO ONE, not even me, can get a credit card, loan, or buy anything that requires a credit inquiry in my name, even if they have ALL the info including my address and SSN. Just a few weeks ago, a tenant moved out of my rental house, and the power company shut off the power instead of transferring it to my rental account as they were supposed to do. They refused to use my home account as proof that I pay my bills and insisted that if I wanted the power back on in the rental house I would have to do a credit check. They tried to run it while I was on the phone with them, but the block would not let them in... not even a tiny peek. I had to unlock it for them and relock it again after. It cost $10 to unlock and relock automatically after a certain number of days. That is the protection I use. Lock it once and it stays locked forever, or until you request. My wife also has her credit locked up in this manner. BTW: this can easily be done now totally on line in minutes. $10 for each credit bureau...FREE if you have been a victim of identity theft in the past 12 months (IIRC).

One other mention that I hope helps someone. New credit cards issued with the RIFD chips in them have a symbol like this ((( . The can be read by a guy standing next to you with a briefcase containing a reader. They get your number into their computer and then either sell it online or strip a new card with your info. In any case your identity has been breached. If I had one of these cards I would keep it wrapped in tin foil. I'm serious on this one.

Yeah...I've dealt with them with that "by law" stuff. I was referring to additional coverage which is much easier and better....for me.....and it ain't free. Ones interested should check with their credit card bank.

*sigh* I remember back when I had an 811 FICO score and over $100,000 of available credit on four credit cards... Funny, my life somehow seems more fulfilling without either now.
Time for all of you to head over to Beyond My DAW!

My cards are Canadian. By law, they have fraud insurance covered by the Gov't. I will only pay up to a $50 deductible. Which i discovered when someone got my card info and tried to purchase a $10,000 surfboard. Considering that card had only been used for guitars, it was pretty obvious!

Forget additional fraud protection- ya'll keep the free stuff..or just get rid of the stuff so you have no use for insurance..I want to see more about a ten thousand dollar surfboard! I had no idea....gone surfing for a surfboard- gotta see one of those.
