If you get a chance go see the Drive by Truckers

I have been warming up to these guys and gal for the last few years and finally got to see them last night.

Real solid, no BS, Rock 'n Roll.  Have not been blown away by a rock band in a long while.  No opening act, they played for 2 1/2 hours solid.   

They play soft and tight with a pedal steel one song and then Rock out with 3 guitars the next.  

So nice to see a great band in a smallish 500 person facility. (with 4 dollar PBRs no less)

    I have seen them twice now and they were both great shows. Mike Cooley has a great talent for playing the guitar while smoking :)
     
    I have to admit to not really loving their last album. Brighter than creations dark, dirty south, decoration day, and southern rock opera are all classics though.
     
    They are one of the 2 or 3 bands that get me excited for a new release.

    New release in a few weeks (feb 15)....Go Go Boots, played 2 or 3 from the new album at the show.  Sounded pretty good.

    If you go to their website you can download 'used to be a cop' for free.

    Interestingly there was no smoking on stage that i can recall....they did have Jack and Patron on stage, but no tobacco.

    Both times I saw them it was outdoors, so they may have been more free with the smoking. If fender ever issues a Mike cooley sig model telecaster the custom shop would have their hands full replicating cigarette burns.
     
    I am looking forward to the new album. The Vinyl versions of their albums are really well done.
