If you had to pick 1 album
That influenced/inspired you the most, which one would it be? (something that still makes you say wow!) For me, I have to say it was VH 1.......that brown sound was just fantastic (still is), and their following albums didn't quite have "that" same sound.

Dire Straits' Brothers In Arms. Top-notch songwriting, performance that I STILL can't approach after 30 years of playing, and perfect production. And that was a REALLY hard question! The Stones' Let It Bleed, James' Laid, Bowie's Diamond Dogs, U2' The Joshua Tree, Roxy Music's Avalon were all typed before I decided on BIA.

VH1 sure was a turning point. I've had a few personal musical turning points in my life but the most crucial one would probably be Creatures of the Night, by KISS. That was the first time I ventured outside of my parents record collection and discovered that there was a world out there, besides Elvis and the Beatles. Then I discovered VH and Ozzy and all those guys. Funnily enough, I was listening to that KISS album yesterday, and my cat Googlie seemed to really like that CD. Don't know if she liked the music, but she sure liked the CD. :P Otherwise, Diary of a Madman by Ozzy - the reason I play guitar, the reason I studied classical guitar, and still a huge influence. But none of the would have happened without that KISS record.

Diary of a Madman was definitely my other choice. The garage band I was in at the time, favoured Ozzy and JP a lot....being the lead guitarist, it was super easy to like them. :)

Difficult question, but "Tarkus" by ELP was a turning point, up until then I had mostly listened to Motown, a bit of pop or a bit of reggae. When a friend played me Tarkus I was blown away, I went home and dragged my sisters old Bontempi chord organ out of the roof space and started learning chords and scales. I also started playing around with simple transistor oscillators tying (without much success) to emulate a synth. With Tarkus a door was opened which lead back to “In the Court of the Crimson King” and pulled in Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Strawbs and many, many more that would become a big part of my musical life.

One good thing about this thread is I'm making a nice playlist for my future listening pleasure. Funny thing I found is, that I also owned and listened to most of these albums (back when I got into rock & roll (early 80's)). Jeff Beck, Jimi, Cream, Return to Forever, DP, Yes etc....exactly the same albums I had.

Oh, I forgot Sigue Sigue Sputnik's Flaunt It. Proof that you could sell an album with no talent used (Tony James is a decent musician, he just didn't seem to put any effort into this record). This aspect inspired me greatly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRhVieOGQkw

Very difficult question to answer, but I'm pretty certain no matter how much deliberation, in the end the answer would inevitably be Switched On Bach.

The first to inspire me the most, would have been Abbey Road. The next would probably have been Dark Side of the Moon. Then later.....VH1. Incidentally, the guitars and amps that I owned, changed along with these influences.

Same here kind of. P-Bass was my "classic rock band" stage Eb3 was my "Cream" stage Rick was my "Yes" stage Alembic was my "Stanley" stage My Custom 5-String was "just because" stage Kal Uke bass was "just for fun" stage Today I own three of those first four basses and my goal is to have a 70s Eb3 before 2018 closes out.
