If you were going to..
retire on a beach or within walking distance...where would that be and why?

Somewhere near JB. A truly beautiful part of the world, good beer, excellent fish 'n chips, and right on the doorstep of one of the most famous musicians in the world Paul McCartney

South coast probably slightly west of JB, because, all of what Strummy said other than the PM bit.

San Luis Obispo, California. Uncrowded part of the coast, with beautiful coastline of sandy beaches, rocky shoreline, cliffs and mountains. A few hours south is L.A. and a few hours north is San Fransisco. Nuff said. Randy

That does sound very cool Steve. And expensive. It does seem hard to decided....if you could retire to anywhere...where would it be? Forget the beach.

If I did it again, I would research the Wind and Solar charts for the best locations for max efficiency close to a lake and not to far from a nice city with a little bit of land to work with. Then set it up to be self-sufficient but still be on the grid for convenience and if it works right, let them pay you and just enjoy life Now the trick is is to locate that place

Here's Stairhaven, with The Crow's Nest pub. Don't know about retirement, but a day-dream of mine involves an apartment in Edinburgh so I can see shows, gigs etc and crash in my own place. Need about £500k for one o' they tho..

I prefer wide open spaces. I'd love to retire in Utah near Arches. My wife and I visited that area and didn't want to leave. And it puts you near Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon.

Well I got home from work and checked on this thread...weird and this is why I say that... Last weekend I bought a metal building to put in the backyard. It's 25' x 30'. Since I've enjoyed building guitars I wanted a place to be comfortable doing it. So I was thinking about how much my wife enjoyed Austria so I typed in "Austria retirement" in goggle and followed the first link.....the first thing I see is a metal building like the one I bought. I'm not taking it to Austria should that be the place. LOL.. I'm not ready to retire but nothing wrong with getting ideas and I'm sure enjoying yours.

My brother retired in Costa Rica. Truly beautiful country. He has access to either the Atlantic coast or the Pacific coast within a days drive.

craigb What IS this "retire" business I keep hearing about anyway? It's when you're not selling your time anymore. Like when the timex takes a lickin' and you keep on tickin'.

Well, I was unemployed for quite a while, so if that's what it's like then I guess I won't be retiring anytime soon!

Anywhere where there is peace and solitude. If you can't be on that beach alone, it's not worth it. I don't care about sandy beaches, but some water would be good for swimming and fishing. A small island in the Finnish lake district would do.
SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre - Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc. The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

Just south of Sarasota, Florida.... Nokomis... Casey Key, to be exact. Sigh. And, here, I live ten minutes from the Pacific.... But I don't like it as much as Florida on the Gulf of Mexico.... ...and for some reason, Im trailing off all my thoughts today....
